Default rear window tray bumpers

Does anybody know where to get the rubber bumpers for the rear window storage tray? If they are not available anywhere, does anybody have any good pictures of what they look like, and where they are placed? Thanks!

Hi ogto,
Dr. Rebuild sells a kit that includes the 3 pieces. The foam is a bit different than the originals if that matters to you.
Here are 2 of the original bumpers from my 71. These are from the sides, the one in the middle was thicker than these 2.
Regards,
Alan

They were glued to the underside of the rear deck and show the imprint of the window tray.

Thanks Alan! I`m guessing the bolt & clamp in the pics is the one for the plenum drain tube?

Hi ogto,
Yes, they are the drain tube clamps.

Here we go sideways
Alan
Did the 71 also have the two rubber bumpers on the tray itself or only the pads on the "car"

Hi Mooser,
I BELIEVE they were on the car.
Mine had fallen off but I could definitely see the remains of the adhesive, (psa?), on the car.
Because of where they're located I THINK the rear window would have knocked them off as it was put on, and removed from, the tray if they were on the tray.
I've never found them in the 71 AIM but they were certainly on this car when it left St. Louis.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan
The 72 has the press-in style bumpers that go through a hole in the corner of the tray (UPC1 Sh-F19) but I can't find anything on the "car" where your foam is located.

With the window in place (in the tray where it belongs) there is enough weight that everything is fine, last year (not carrying the window at all) it "banged" around a little so I was wondering if it should also have something like those foam pieces you showed

I've got some high density foam here, maybe go cover your eyes as I bubba a set up and try them

Thanks

Hi Mooser,
As I said the only way I knew where they went was from the old psa squares that were left.
I'm covering my eyes now, so go ahead.

My tray also has a small, round, push-in bumper on the tray, but only one. The other is missing, which was what I was looking for in my original question. I also do not see where any bumpers would have been on the underside of the deck. But, I like the foam idea, and as ours will be a driver, it will work fine for me too!

Looks like there might have been three
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/fact...-question.html

Strange part is the part number 3827411 also shows on the 70 AIM listing for tray bumper as well as for the 72.

Does the AIM for 71 not list the bumpers, should be on the tray page?

Mine (AIM) only shows two, one at both ends. I shaved down a set of the ones used for the rear compartments. Currently adding foam like Alan shows.

Alan, don't read the following!
I also used some spray adhesive and fitted some black flannel to the inside of my tray to protect the frame/glass from any possible scratches. Been there since the first year, works very well.

My 71 AIM does not show any bumpers on the tray OR the under side of the deck. But my tray sure has the one small round one!
Also, there are 3 small holes along the chrome strip as mentioned in the link you posted, BUT the center hole is not drilled through, so a push in bumper would not work in the center hole on my tray, only the corner holes.

I realize this is an old thread but I believe these are the correct bumpers for a 69-72 back window storage tray w/three holes.

Hi cc67,
Interesting bumpers.
I'm curious when they were used. My 71 didn't/doesn't have them, (has the 3 pads instead), plus only has one hole in the chrome strip, (center), where the bumper could have gone.
There's no mention on the 71 AIM sheet about a change to, or from, the bumpers.
My bet is the bumpers were early, but people were breaking them off as they slid the window onto the tray, so a change was made to the pads.
Regards,
Alan

Looking back through the posts, what's wierdest is that it looks like they were there in 70, gone in 71 and back again in 72 (mine lists the 3827411 but only those two, one at each end)

Alan,
On my two '71's, vin# 12659 has the original pads with no bumpers in the tray, vin# 15065 has the bumpers in the tray corners and no pads glued to the bulkhead.

1970 #16965 has the three PSA pads.

1971 #13750 has one round rubber bumper... No pads

Hi,
It seems the chrome strip would need to change in order for the bumpers to be mounted? Or if the strip had just one hole did the tray just get one bumper?
71, #6589, 3 pads, 1 hole (unused) in the strip.
Did the change in the latch have anything to do with the type/number of bumpers/pads??
Regards,
Alan

That's right, your tray had the spot for the thumb button latch used in 72 but still used the older handle style latch didn't it... Still hard to believe they did 4 different trays in 5 years of production

Alan
I noticed in your picture of the center bumper, and some of your past pictures that the latch is painted.

Is that exterior body color, I know that your car was flight judged, so I asume the color of the latch is correct. I need to research the color of a latch for 1970.
