Default '69 Vert Windshield Post Weatherstrip Replace

My weatherstipping is kind of natty and I want to replace the pillar post pieces. The choices are a little confusing, so forum guys, please help with answers (especially Alan!!):
1) I only really need to repalce the upper pieces, do I lose any originality by only buying the upper and not the attached lower.
2) Do I need weatherstrip glue, or is the 6 piece screw set and retainer sufficient to reinstall.
3) My car is largely original, so I'm happy to spring for the more expensive "correct" pieces, which supplier would be best (Wilcox, Zip, MidAmerica, others).
Thanks folks.

Hi N,
1. I'd think that splitting the upper and lower windshield pillar weatherstrip would have some effect on originality.
2. The original weatherstrip was glued to the weatherstrip retainer. It's no problem to glue it again.
3. You need to check with the venders you've listed to see who's weatherstrip they're distributing. I don't think any of them are weatherstrip manufacturers.
People seem to like the weatherstrips from Corvette Rubber Company (CRC).
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

1) The issue with replacing the upper part is that you must use the 1973-1982 pillar weatherstrip. The holes are not in the correct place so you'll have to poke new ones to make it work and they do not have the correct shape.... (they are close but not correct,). My suggestion is to purchase the correct pillar weatherstrip, it's just a hassle to use the wrong one and then try to bond it to the lower pillar.

2) You'll need glue.. the pillar weatherstrip once adjusted is glued in the retainer. And.. before you install anything.. Make sure the pillar retainer is flat. Inspect where the screws passed through the weatherstrip retainer and make sure the retainer is not pulled. A retainer that rocks when installed will make the pillar not seal properly. It is a very common problem for the retainer to be pulled at the screw holes. People try to remove them and don't realize they don't have all the screws out.. when they pull on them they bend slightly.

3) If you want correct parts regardless of where you purchase them make sure you purchase CRC brand weatherstrips for your car. Imported weatherstrips are junk. The only rubber we carry for C3 cars is CRC brand.
