Default Question on headers

I need a new set of headers for my 77 350. I believe I have a pair of old flowtech's on there now. I had no problems with putting them in and on. Didn't have to ding or remove anything. But there old and rusty. (had to remove the wraps, after break-in on the new cam toasted them) I have a show to go to in November "Shop with a Cop" with the Sheriffs Office. I need somthing nice but NOT $$$. Any ideas?

I saw them, and I saw the stainless steel ones, and Titanium? ones too. But which brand has the least amount of trouble fitting. I have read alot of horror stories about fitment issues.

Flowtech has ceramic coated headers that are fairly cheap and fit nice.

I put some ceramic coated Hooker headers on mine. No fitment issues at all.

By the way nice car and pics!

You could just remove your headers and send them off to Jet-Hot, or a similar place. I don't know what kind of turn-around time they have.

If your timing is properly advanced, it will keep your headers from getting too hot. Have you recurved the distributor? I don't remember if you have or not.

Hey!! Tim's back!! Good to hear from you again. If I remember right, Tim, you installed those headers with the original paint still on them. How are they holding up?

I think Flowtech used to be called Dynomax, which is what I have. Good ground clearance and no problems with fit except #4 tube. I had to dent that for plug boot clearance but that might be related to my Vortec heads. Car looks great BTW.

Yeah Scottyp99 it's been recurved. I'll have to make my mind up soon. I need to order them and put them on before Nov. Gives me about 6 weeks. But I have alot on my plate now besides being daddy and husband, I have to help my Dad with my Mom, she has dementia real bad now and he refuses to place her in a home or get anyone in to help him out. Thanks guys for the replies.

Have not used Hedman's on a Vette, but I have used them on other brands and was happy with the quality of the flanges and overall fit. Good value for the money.

Beautiful car by the way! Looks fantastic.

Sorry to hear about your mother. I had to deal with the same thing a few years back, but at least I didn't have to argue with anyone, as I'm an only child, and my father died MANY years ago. It isn't pleasant, not by a long shot....

Looks like the day I installed them a year ago.
I think its funny when you tell a non vette person you put headers on a vette and they think its rocket science, but its the easiest install I have ever done.
I did put that heat wrap on the tube by the heater box and the front one by the fuel line.

I'm in the same boat - only child - So I feel guilty a little bit that my Dad is dealing with this by himself at times. But as my father tells me "It is what it is you just have to deal with it and live on" He believes theres a reason for it, but doesn't understand why it happened to her and not him. He tells me he was the Bastard and she did no harm to anyone. We finally have her on some meds now. Thanks.

Looks like I'm going to go the ceramic coat way instead of the chrome stainless steel, Thanks again guys...

I thimk that it's simply a case of genetics. My father's side of the family, through his mother, is predisposed to short lives, due to heart attacks. He died at the age of 58, despite being a great guy.

My mother's side of the family, at least the women, seem to have been prone to "senility", which today they call Alzheimer's. My grandmother had it, and at least one aunt, that I know of, had it. My mother was trying to fight it, and tried a prescription drug called Reminyl. Instead of slowing memory loss, as intended, my mother had an adverse reaction to the Reminyl, and within a week, wound up out in left field, never to recover...

The one thing I like to do to my headers is to make the outer tubes separate from the inner ones so they don't warp and the metal connecting all them doesn't lift the other tubes up off the head and leak.
I never have a header gasket leak and these have been on my car for over a year and I tightened them one time after I let them run a day then they have never came loose.

I've had a couple of sets of headers over the years, and did that to both of them.
