engine missing

engine missing
82 vette' 43000 miles. I love it, but it has a bad miss when I put a load on the engine. Idles fine. About 40 MPH, sputters and bacfires and looses power. Not drivable. Have replaced fuel pump, plugs, wires, distributor, filters. 3 different mechanics - no luck. What could it be? Nit run much ....

I think I would look at the carburator. My other thought might be that the timing chain has slipped a tooth. I was in a car years ago that happend in and acted just as you describe.

if its crossfire then it could be anything,gm mechanics had a hard time fixing them in 82.try to find a old gm mechanic at a dealer and see if he could look at it but my guess is hell run away.i had so many problems with mine i finally went to a carb set up but wouldnt recomend it to the weak of heart or short wallet.
