Default Rear Carpet Install Help

I have been working on restoring the interior on my 77 for a number of months. This weekend I was finally ready to start putting everything back in and started tackling the rear carpet. I installed the passengers side fender well carpet with no issues. I was able to match up the old carpet and locate the holes and it looks great.

I moved on to the drivers side and can not find the old carpet @#$%^. The passengers side has the wiring going to the back. I dont recall that being on the outside of the carpet, but it is difficult to figure out how to make the carpet go over the wire harness and look decent. I got the AIM out and sure enough they only show the passengers side install which was much easier.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

I am wondering if even from the factory it look a little sloppy, becasuse I don't see how you can go over the wiring harness and still look nice.

On my '74, the harness is tucked into clips along the side and the carpet goes over everything. It's really not very noticeable.

The wire's gotta go somewhere....

So it is supposed to go over the wire harness? I thought that, but was having trouble figuring out how to trim the front to get it to fit. I assume you still have a bulge where the wiring harness is and a bulge where the carpet goes over the wiring harness exiting out the back. The passanger side tucked in nice, not sure how to trim the other side.

Is your rear harness routed correctly according to thr AIM? If it is, the carpet fits over it and it doesn't make much of a bulge.

These pictures are from a 71, but perhaps they may help you.
All the wiring is hidden.
