I have the original carb that came out of my 74 not sure what condition or if parts are missing. But are they worth anything ??

Probably not a lot, in good shape worth a bit to someone looking for the correct casting, especially if the julian codes are a believable match.

I like quadrajets though... worth more to me than a holley.

if you have the car that it belongs to, it's worth a lot more. I'd rebuid it, or have it rebuilt if that's the case.

It's worth about $50-75 as a core unit...the higher value if all the parts are there. But, it's worth more to you as a 'correct' original carb, if you have the factory intake manifold it came with. If rebuilt properly, its a MUCH better carb than whatever you have on the car now.

On the outside wall of the driver's side of the carburetor will be a number starting with a 7. That's the casting number... I believe it will be 705XXXX but I could be wrong.

Yes. QJets are stamped with model number and a date of manufacture. The Black Book lists the correct model number for your engine/tranny combination.

If you still have the 74, why not keep the original QJet?

You're looking for a 7044XXX. There were 9 different q-jet models for the '74 corvette. The most valuable will be the LS4 454ci quadrajet models - 7044221, 7044225, and 7044505.

Send it to Lars and have him rebuild it for you. He keeps an eye on this forum and he should be able to help you out just fine.

You can Google my name, Lars Grimsrud, or Google "Tuning for Beer" to pull up the Tuning Tour Seminar Series info. You can also check me out on Wikepedia. (Note that my son's name is the same, but I don't have a Facebook page...).

You just send me an e-mail request for my "Services Info Sheet" and I send you all the info on the process.

Lars
