I remember riding in my brother's '68 when I was a kid. Those lights on the console were space age amazing stuff to me. Very cool.

Hi s,
Both the front and rear fiber optic lenses are held in place with screws..... but, they can only be reached with the shifter console removed.
Regards,
Alan

Doesn’t seem to be enough room to lift the shifter plate out. The heater control and rear fiber optics seem to be holding it in.
I removed the screws, shift **** and vent *****.

I got it out, might as well give the shifter and trim plate a coat of paint while it's out.

that response is typical of a first time Vette owner that is just learning what Vettes are all about

Hi s,
The heater/defroster controller needs to be mounted in just the right way to it's frame and then the frame to the console so the plate can be slid down over it.
The same thing goes for the ashtray frame mounting to the plate.
Have you checked those?
Regards,
Alan

Not dumb...those of use who have been there know what you're talking about. Once it's back in you'll sit back and wonder what took you so long. One learning mistake that I made was over tightening the screws that held the fiber lenses on. I broke one and then had to wait on a reorder so I could finish installing the console.

Love the fiber optic's of the early C3's!

it's back in !! I had a problem with the heater control wheel RH side and one side was up a bit.what made it work is the side that was not going in all the way was to pull up on it while pressing the other side then a shove back in.it was still a little higher up but I was able to get the screw to grab and pull it in.nice and leval everything is working. Now on to the next part of the fiber optics repair.Headlight bulbs with rubber peice over the glass peice. Thanks for everyones help and, encouragement !!

Post some photos of that badboy. Love the fiber optics feature in the old C3s.

Great work. I had a 70 model coupe and I always thought the optics were WAY COOL.
