Default Tach problem

My 78 has had a lot of engine work through the years that I don't know what color is the tach wire. I have a light brown loose wire left. It has a complete MSD system in it and the tach just goes up slow and stops. I installed an auto meter 5 in tach with a MSD adaptor and it works fine but I'd also like the factory one to work too.

I do believe on my 76 it is light brown... Don't know if that helps.

Thanks for the response but I've got the MSD so where do I put the light brown wire. I connected it to the MSD tach adapter but it didn't work.

Do you have the tach filter?

No filter. I tried to hook up the light brown wire to the MSD adapter but it didn't work. This car has been through 4 engines and 3 different ignition systems so I don't have a clue as to where to connect the wire.

on mine that brown wire goes to a filter then to the negative side of the coil, mine's a 76 if that makes a difference but don't think it does... I have been told if you don't have a filter, or one that works, then your tach will not work.
