My interior at this point looks exactly like yours. I'm replacing vent and heater cables. rebuilding clock, rebuilding heater control, replacing after market cassette player (installed in 1985), dealing with a Hurst shifter hitting the console, and attempting to unBubba some wiring issues. I'm trying to be done for a Dec 1 car show, but between waiting on parts and out of town Tday visitors not sure I'll make it. Boring? No. Fascinating!
One thing I will tell you is that you are only a few bolts form having the column out of the car... Do this before you put the dash pad on the left back in. If the steering column is in you run the risk of breaking the lower U part of the dash pad when going back. Having the column out always makes this an easy job. Another trick when going back is to pull the speedo cable and tach cables loose at the other ends.. and pull them through the dash a bit. This helps you re-assemble easier.
Good luck and Happy New Year.

I'm at exactly the same point as you Roma, except the Lh and upper dash pad as I'm changing the heater core. Take care with the plastic parts they are brittle (ducts and housing) and don't silicone everything together like the previous owner did in mine, it makes removing the heater core impossible as everything breakes it's a time consuming job.
Willcox or anyone else, the firewall insulation with black backing does it go in between the heater core housing and firewall or do yoy have to trim it around? I saw on your documents that there are trim lines at the bottom but not for the two top fixations. Doesn't it make the heater box sit angled in relation to the firewall? (see the pic in this thread firewall insulation trimming for ac cars
I don't know if you are changing the insulation as well Roma so I thought this question could interst you as well

It is held in place with what I think is called a "push washer". You can gently force it back to remove it. It has little fingers that fit into grooves. These fingers may deform on removal and need to be bent back when you got to reassemble it.
Hi Frank,
I believe it was left open to allow the water to run down the windshield post to the 'gutter extension' on the windshield post weatherstrip.

Alan
The difference is not too big, but should be enough for the next 43 years
