Default headlight actuator question?

Although I own a 82 I would imagine this would pertain to all C3s. My question is when the hood is up and you're standing in front of the car looking down at the actuators should both actuator nipples be facing each other? My passenger side nipple faces away from the other one so that vacuum hose has a farther stretch. Of the pictures I've looked at the nipples face each other (center of car) so I thought maybe someone replaced the passenger actuator and bought a replacement. They had listed a left and a right and purchased the right but the nipple is facing again away from the center of the car if installed?? So when ordering is left really the right (passenger) because this confuses me

The outlets do not face each other. They should face away from each other. This is to allow enough clearance for the hood opening.

The orientation varies from year to year. Not sure why.

My '69 has them facing away from each other, or put another way, the right actuator faces the right side of the car, and the left actuator faces the left side of the car. All directions as if you were sitting in the driver's seat. I have owned this car for all but the first 6 months of it's life, so I'd say that's the way it came from St. Louis. But you never know...

I'll have to go look at the relay hardware to be sure, but my recollection is that the bracket can be installed either way on the relay...even though the AIM shows that both relays are the same P/N. That would mean that someone on the assembly line would have to keep those relays separated into the correct bin [by its bracket configuration], and that both bins would have something in them when a car was being built...otherwise, the line assembler would just take two from the bin with stock.

If stock was depleted from one of the relay configurations, that's when an "odd" relay setup might occur.

Eventually, GM decided to save more money and install just one relay for both headlights. This change DID allow the headlights to work together, anyway.

Mine do not face each other. Then again the right one looks newer. Its possible the previous owner changed it.
