Does anyone know the best way to get the build sheet for a pre-Bowling Green 1971 ? Through General Motors ?
You can always have one of the on-line document services make "a" build sheet (as opposed to "the" build sheet) up for you...just tell them what you want it to say. Just don't expect the next caretaker to be impressed and pay you extra for it.
I looked a long time for the right car...and paid dearly for it. I saw many nice cars, but passed on all of them because they did not have the original documentation.
Those 'document reproduction' services do not have access to the original information about your car. They merely create a similar-looking document from the information about the car that YOU supply to them.
You can do the same thing yourself, with any word processing program on your computer.
Not sure what u mean when u say pre bowling green. Can u explain
Also when I bought my 71. I was given 2 build sheets. Is the other one worth anything? Thanks. Clay
Corvettes were built/assembled in St. Louis until the plant in Bowling Green, KY opened in 1981.
The only 'build sheets' of value for a 1971 are the one(s) that came with the car from the assembly plant. This could have been placed on top of the fuel tank, behind the speedo/tach housings, or in the dash area. A new car also had an MSRP sheet stuck to the driver's window, and the original sheet can be used for valid documentation, also.
There is no "original" build information on St. Louis-built cars retained by General Motors. It was probably thrown away over 30 years ago, when Corvette production was moved to the Bowling Green plant.
