if you decide to paint one, use rustoleum engine paint and use vacuum caps for the terminals

Thanks
Any auto parts store that carries a major brand of ignition parts will have the correct {black} color cap.....

Take a look at the video posted above to see the type of distributor cap being discussed in this thread.

I would think so. I have no idea what these people are talking about. Just route the wires correctly on a standard black NAPA cap.

I may be wrong, but in this case ('correct'...'ed') means the plug wires that go to the right side of the engine, plug into the right side of the dist. cap, and the same for the left side. kinda like the vortec, to bad there isnt an adapter to run the vortec distrubuter, if you had a points dist , you could run a marine crab cap
hope this helps

Maybe the "Zone" doesn't sell black caps. Most of their stuff comes from Mexico....

OK, you have lost me. What is the purpose of this expensive and red cap?

It cleans up the engine bay wiring and makes it somewhat easier to route wires to avoid crossfire.

for those who seem confused on this, a "corrected " cap is one that has the terminals relocated so that the plug wires no longer have to cross sides of the engine... 1,2,3,4 are now all on left and 2,4,6,8 are on the right.. cleaner install... the cap distributes the spark "correctly" to the 18436572 order

Thanks for the explanation. But I don't see the necessity.

its not necessary.. the old style caps have worked just fine for decades.. this is just a cosmetic thing, created for show cars ,etc. primarily.. you can make a much cleaner look if you don t have to cross sides ... thats all

It was designed so it would confuse experienced GM mechanics.

Definitely looks neater IMHO. Though they don't have a very good reputation for reliability.

Alright guys and gals, Advance Auto Parts has the Accel 8141R cap for $51.00, but if you order online and enter promo code ES123, you can save $20.00. End cost is $31.00. I think I need one of those. Any problem with longevity, or hasn't it been on the market long enough to tell? It's all new to me as evidenced by my earlier post in this thread.

The '97 S-10 4X4 I had, my winter driver for several years, was factory equipped with one of these "corrected" caps, and I had no ignition related issues with the truck for the time I owned it...
