I have a 1969 corvette. The paint bubbled from having a tarp on it for a year. What is the best way to strip the paint. I heard some people use captain lee's paint stripper and other people use a razor blade. Which is the easiest and best way to do this? Thanks, Scott.
Thats what I have used in the past and thats what I am currently using on my 77. I have several layers, so I took the top layer off with the razors, and the rest off with Captain Lees. Never had a problem with it. Take it all the way down to the bare glass, and wash the panels with water during the process.
24 grit grinding wheel on the most powerful body grinder you can find...well actually that is not a good idea....
DO I HEAR A "TIM ALLEN GRUNT" IN THAT STATEMENT??????
I''ve just started my restore on an '81, started working on the hood just to see what works for me. will complete the body after the frame and motor are finished. but, I found that a heat gun set on WARM --- not HOT and a steel bladed putty knife work pretty good to get the first couple layers off, then I went to West Marine and got some "Fiberglass safe" stipper, it's expensive but works really well. I found that it tends to dry out pretty quick which doesn't allow it to work long enough, I started putting the stripper on and then covering it with a sheet of thin polyethelene "drop cloth", this keeps it from drying out and lets the stripper work better, I just let it sit and work for about 30 minutes then peel a corner up and check to see if the paint is loosened up enough to scrape off.
Hi,
I think Capt. Lee's is a good choice too.
Be very careful using a metal paint scraper or razor blade.... every gouge will need to be repaired!
Good Luck!

Alan
Soda blasting. They are mobile and can come do it in your driveway. It's just baking soda, so just hose it off when your done. Perfect finish when complete and not too expensive.
