Default 73 rear spring

First post. I bought this 73 several months ago and I've been quietly plugging along, checking the forum when I need. Now I'm on the IRS which I'm clueless on. It's had the half-shafts rebuilt and various bushings it appears but the rear spring bushings were shot. They were also at a cocked angle before I cut them off.

Went to replace and the spring holes and the holes on the trailing arms are off about an inch. Thus the canted bolts. What's the fix? Is it normal? I can get them in its just not aligned. Thanks

Hi i,
From your picture it appears your car has a replacement rear spring on it.
The shape of the end of the longest leaf, the lack of a bushing cup, and the band wrapping the spring leaves are the clues.
I think you need to try to determine what this spring is and whether it's causing the bolt alignment problem you're seeing.
Can we see a picture of the entire spring from the rear of the car? It's difficult to judge it's length because of the angle of the picture you posted.
Regards,
Alan

Default Rear spring

If its a replacement it's an old replacement! No stickers or ID. It does have bushing cups they were out while I was replacing the nuts, bushings and washers. The spring sits back about an inch. Like I said, I can assemble it but its not aligned. The wring holes are an inch off towards the rear of the car if that makes sense.

They are in no problem I did that. The spring just sits a little behind the trailing arm holes. I'd think they should line up.

Hi i,
I believe that when you lift the trailing arm up as Ed suggested the alignment will improve.
Because of the arc the trailing arm pivots in, the bolt hole moves forward slightly as the t-arm drops below horizontal.

Alan

It actually went in pretty straight when it all settled and sat on the tires. Thanks for the input everyone!
