Help me identify this underdash part

Default Help me identify this underdash part

It appears to be some kind of capacitor (red circle) .Looks old but not OEM (because of those blue splice clips)The radio is OEM.

Why would it be connected to the brake switch?

Without me digging into the wiring schematics, does anyone know what the yellow wire (cut and taped) does? (crooked red arrow)

This car used to be my daily driver and I don't remember anything "not working"

The pic doesn't show up for me, but I have an aftermarket relay activated by the brake light that goes to the radio that I think is to reduce interference.

I'm sure someone with far superior knowledge than mine will be along soon to provide a better answer...

My 75 has the same thing connected to the turn signal wires. It is a capacitor or filter for radio interference. From my research this seems to be a dealer installed fix and also it was installed in different places.

Yellow wire, I don't know.

What model year? My hunch is that it's for radio noise supression, but location can vary between model years.
