Tim is right they changed the colour late in 1976 I believe.I had two 1977 pontiac lemans both with small block cbevys one was orange the other corporate blue,as opposed to the light silver pontiac blue of course corvettes may have changed earlier...or maybe later
Good to know.......I was watching this Mechum auction and they auctoned off a GTO with a blue motor and I thought I might have a Poncho motor in my Vette.
I believe the correct color is called GM Corp Blue.
Pontiac used blue long before it came to Chevrolet.
GM switched to blue as the result of a lawsuit. Someone bought a new car from a different GM division and found it had a Chevrolet engine in it. He sued. He won. GM initiated the corporate blue and added a disclamer that new GM cars could have engines built by other GM divisions.

Mike, I think that the guy had bought an Oldsmobile. Lou.
I can never remember whether it was a Buick or an Oldsmobile.

I can't recall offhand where I read that account; possibly Corvette News. Google it and you might kick up something. If memory serves, it became a class action lawsuit.

I think the guy bought an Oldsmobile. Oldsmobile made a big deal about having a "Rocket" engine which was supposed to be a better engine so when it came to light that they didn't have the Rocket engine some owners sued. At least that is how my father (who was a big Oldsmobile fan and owner) told it to me.
