Default Door Alignment Help 72 Convert

I am in the process of aligning the doors after the car was painted and the weatherstripping installed. The gaps are too large. The doors need to be raised and moved forward. Sounds simple.

When I raise the door, the weatherstripping on the front top of the door is hitting the weatherstripping on the window pillar.

Anybody else run into this problem? What did you do?

thanks

Vito

That may be correct. There may be a crush area where the door and windshield weatherstripping crush together for sealing. Can you post a pic?

A lot has changed here since 88. I live on the opposite side of the rock.

Looking forward to this summer and finally getting the car licensed.

I have a feeling that i am going to have to open the door and raise it to make any adjsutments. I was searching through all the posts on this and I get the concensis that it takes a while to compress these two. I just don't like the idea of having to make any adjustments opening and closing the door. 1 bad move and paint chips

Hi af,
Did the installation of the weatherstrips cause the gap problem or were they wide when the car was painted?
That might give you a clue whether waiting for the strips to compress will help what you're seeing.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan

I had the doors aligned prior to going to the shop. The doors were removed for painting. I guess that the shop made the gaps wider to compensate for the two hitting each other.

I read several posts on this and from I take is that the doors are installed and aligned prior to putting the weather stripping.

Now just trying to figure out how to raise and move forward the doors with the weatherstripping installed.

I have a picture in my garage. Don't have any accounts for posting otherwise.

Thanks

Vito
