Default Need advice on a 70 Vert

Hello
I recently sold my 66 Coupe and found a 1970 all original Corvette Vert

Car has sat in garrage since the early 80's needs full restoration but all numbers are matching what would be a reasonible price to pay ??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Bill

What engine and trans? Rusty? Colors? Options? All will have a part in determining value.

OK
Red Exterior and interior with a 350 /350hp 4 speed dont know anything other then engine needs rebuilt as well as interior not top frame there have not seen condition of the frame just want a ball park so I can make a fair offer

Not my 1st rodeo as far as knowledge of how costly a ground up restoration can cost but would like to start at a fair base

I would think an offer of 15k-20k tops?

Thanks
Bill

Do you consider an offer of $20K to be reasonable for a car which has been sitting thirty years?

I haven't heard enough information to guess at an offer. I'm not even sure what a "fair offer" means. Fair for whom? I always say, I can't buy AND sell the car. How much does he want?

Assuming you have verified the numbers, the dollars could vary wildly depending on frame and rust condition, and evidence of prior body repair.

The fact is, you said it needs a full restoration. If that's truly the case, you could potentially exceed the value of the car in restoration costs alone. This is affected by a close examination of the car's particulars.

If I was thinking offers. It would be lower than 15, pending more information.

I am not implying anything. I asked a question. You asked for a "reasonable offer" then said possibly $20K. If you feel $20K is a reasonable amount to offer for this car, make your offer.

If you ask me... $20 is too much for a project.

Here is what folks are asking nationally for a 70 Vette

Hi Bill,
A 70 350/350 convertible is a very desirable car. BUT remember, it's a 70, not a mid-year. Also, it's not a bb or LT-!.
Since you know about restorations I think you need to figure out the cost of what you're going to need to spend on the car to bring it to the level you want it to be; make a guess at what you'd be able to sell it for, and then subtract the $$$ spent (and your time spent, for free?). What's left is what you can sensibly pay for this car.
I truly believe that very few well restored typical, (not rare), 68-72 cars make anyone ANY money, and RARELY are sold for the money in them.
I would think $10,000 (?) if the car is rust free and the VAST majority of original parts are still there and restorable. As you know buying part # and date code parts gets very EXPENSIVE very quickly.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Bill,

I think you've been influenced by midyear prices. Many ready to roll '70 Corvettes aren't worth that kind of money. Full restoration will cost the same as doing one on a mid year however.

you stated 'all original' do you know what this means? depending on if it is 'all original' and what your definition is, the value would be wildly different. have you verified all the numbers, or just looked at the stamp pad?

if it is truly 'all original' then I would add 50-75% to what these guys are telling you what the car is worth.

If you have 20k to spend I would find a lot better car then that one. I am not being a smart ****, just sayin you can get decent driver for that kind of money. Or a project for way less.
Also.. If it is numbers matching, is that important to you? If not then you can definitely find more car for a lot less.
Good luck.

Hello Bill,

Congrats on selling your 66. There is a red/red 70 4 speed convertible that runs and drives in Baytown. The owner is asking 25 however he is very motivated to sell. It is on Houston's Craigslist. It is probably a better car than you are decsribing. His name is Luke so give him a call. You could drive the car home.

Good Luck

Hello Bill,

Is Lukes car the one that you were describing? Iwould have bought it last week if it had A/C. That was a very good buy for a real red/red 70 4 speed convertible.

Drive it over when you get a chance.

Congrats again
Jay
