that pad stamp looks good and could fool easily 99% of us. but you have to look at all the numbers thruout the car and the date codes thruout the car to determine what it is.

looks like a real nice car.. if the doc is being passed of as authentic when it is not then base the price accordingly.

nothing wrong with a fake car... just don't pay original engine money for it.
It may be a nice car, but I won't do business or offer them money for their car if they are trying to pass off bogus documents. What else could they be hiding. I'm running away from this one.

I wonder if there are any forum members that have a '71 BB or LT-1 documented convertible that they thought of selling. At least I know I would be dealing with a real person and corvette guy or lady here and not some jack off fraudster. Thanks for you help guys, it was most appreciated!

a great condition, correct numbers, BB convertible without excuses and rust is going to be rare and expensive.. I guess that is why you have been looking for 10 years..

I don't understand the documents. If the tank sticker says turbo (automatic) trans and the protecto (which as a vin stamp on it) is not for the car, they obviously don't belong to that car. Did the seller actually present those 2 items as belonging to that car? Doesn't really make sense. Those documents say nothing about the car, and they only raise questions about the seller if he presented them as belonging to the car.

You are absolutely right joewill. I have gone through this over and over and over and continue to get dissapointed. Now I have no vette in the stable. I just sold my z06 to a GREAT forum buyer. I am glad ONE of us ended up with a great corvette. I will continue to search. I think I should put a want to buy thread here and see what happens. Forum people are so much better than this friggin used car lots and consignment shops.

Hello PRNDL and thank you for looking at my thread. The seller presented fraud documents. Tank sticker was not for this car and neither was the protecto plate. Speaks volumes of the integrity here. It really sucks!!!!! I thought I had the right corvette for me.

Hi tbv,
If I may I'll make a suggestion.
You may want to consider looking at the cars for sale in the NCRS DRIVELINE. The cars range from project cars to high level award winners, and from seriously driven car to cars that have traveled mostly in trailers.
These cars have sometimes been Flight Judged and may thus give you a good indication of what they are.
While Flight Judging isn't perfect, it should at least give you an idea if a car is one that you might want to check out further.
Maybe?
Regards,
Alan

That's one of the two hard copy magazines they publish. The other is the Restorer. I had presumed you were already a member given your interest in a real deal car.

To me there are two types of C3's out there. A numbers Vette and a none numbers Vette. Either one can make most Vette lovers happy. I's bit of a mind game. Buying a true numbers C3 Vette can cost you twice that of a none numbers in the same condition. But it's all part of the fun of buying a Vette, rigt? Being uncertain about it's authenticity, gathering the facts as you are doing, testing the waters with Vette guru's, and milling all of that over and over . . . . After all, it's not always the destination, but the adventure of getting there. Good luck, and enjoy the trip.

I totally understand where you are coming from. Thanks!!!!!!

Hey how about a 1971 454/365 hp roadster but in WHITE? I never really was into white, but this doesn't look bad at all. Or does it?

Who the heck would fake a white corvette?

Wow, the response regarding a white '71 454/365 hp roadster has been overwhelming. Please respond one at a time, so I can keep up with the posts. Thanks for your consideration.

An incorrect tank sticker and POP for this car makes the documents suspect, not particularly the car. Trying to pass off the false documentation makes the seller suspect.

Despite the amateur effort to create something that isn't and lie about it, this could still be a nice car.

Could very well be, but they were tight on the pricing. The car is no longer worth the asking price with false documentation. I'll pass!!!!!!

Hi tbv,
The 71 convertible.... it's pretty futile to make a comment on a car based on one picture.
How about.... The black vinyl hardtop looks great with the white paint! Only 2619 convertibles were equipped with the hard top, and only 832 of those had the vinyl covering.
Regards,
Alan

Hi tbv,
Well that picture shows an NCRS plate.
Has it been Flight Judged?
Seriously, no one can make an intelligent comment on a car, (except it's PRETTY), based on 2 exterior pictures and NO information.
Regards,
Alan

I do not know. The only way to find out is to send an inquiry about it, which I did. I have not heard back yet. Oh hell enough of this. Let me just link it to ya already. If someone buys it before me it will be just my luck.

Take a gander and here is more information about the car. I will post the link below. I had a fun few posts with ya, but I do like to take this seriously at times. I do appreciate yours and everyone elses help.

I look at it this way. I certainly would rather have a color that was not my first choice that was a true and correct corvette, rather than some other car that had a color that I liked that was suspect. (like that red one). I so want a 71 big block roadster and been looking for so long. But I have NEVER ever considered a white car, until now.

Anyway, here is the link:
