Default Spring Load

Hi All,
Does anyone know what force is required to overcome the tension in
the springs for the headlights and the wiper door? Or know where I can
find this info? I am lookining at designing a more compact electric drive
for both systems.

Regards,

Mark

Why? Oh, that's right. There are lots of folks who don't know anything about the vacuum system [which is really a lot simpler than electric] and they are lining-up to pay hundreds of dollars for electric 'stuff'....instead of spending $10 for a diagnostic book and $20 for a cheap vacuum gauge.

Good luck with that. I think if there was a real market for that product, it would have been created a LONG time ago.

Hi Mark,
I'm not sure just how the electrical conversions work, (and I agree with 7T1), but if the electric motor drives the doors open and closed, are the springs even necessary?
I don't think there were any springs involved in the 63-67 system... just electric motors.
I'd think there needs to be both an 'open' and 'closed' stop for motor.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks for the well wishes 7T1vette. The problem as I see it, is that
the quality of replacement parts is deteriorating and I personnally don't
want to be having to be fixing my vacuum system every 6mths
because another seal or valve has died due to poor quality parts.
Simple does not always directly relate to better or reliable.

The problem I see with the current electrical systems on offer, is that
they are way to cumbersome. I am sure that with a little more thought,
I can come up with a design that won't have the wiper door opening
and closing with the force that I have seen current conversions i.e. a
nice soft open/close just like the vacuum system. As for the headlights,
every conversion I have seen so far is either huge or has sloppy joints
and poorly made bracketry.

Mark

Hello Alan,
Yes you maybe right for the headlights, but the wiper door spring is a
little harder to remove and I would like the conversion to be as simple
as possible to do, otherwise people will not be bothered with it and see
it as just another system that's just to hard to install.

As far as the headlights there is a C2 vendor who makes replacement elec motors for them. Originals use no springs.

Maybe check them out...
