Bought my 1974 L-48 auto coupe up here in Canada last year (white with black interior) rebuilt strong running motor and trans. original A/C car all parts present but not working paid 9500.00 I would think you could get similier quality for less money in N.Y. state just keep an eye out and good luck!

I bought a pretty nice74 for my daughter for$7000. There are quite a few cars in your price range but many will need some work. You will find it though, but be patient which is sometimes hard to do.

I'm getting a better feeling that I'm not chasing that elusive butterfly. After reading some rather positive comments on this forum, and getting some encouraging PMs, I do believe I can get what I want if I keep my pants on. Plus, I'm noticing more new car f/s ads coming out.

Thanks for the helpful comments.

This is regarding a reference made, in this thread, to the Discovery Channel's car show entitled "Fast 'n Loud." It also contains some info about a fiberglass American sportscar that actually PRE-DATED the Corvette (by a year), but if "Fast 'n Loud" is not your thing, please feel free to skip this post. I realize it's a little lengthy. Thanks.

I enjoy the show.

And I think the OP will find his car, in that range.

Geez. You know, I've seen the show a couple of times and have really enjoyed it, but I promise that those were my own words. Didn't mean to sound like some type of parrot.

Should have copyrighted it...
kethinspace,

No sweat. I do believe that those were your own words--that's kinda what makes it even cooler--it was just a coincidence--but a FUNNY one!

And I'm glad to hear you really enjoyed "Fast 'n Loud." My girlfriend and I love it. Some take issue with the fact that it's a "reality show," meaning yes, some of it is manipulated, and could be edited better, at times. However, unlike most "reality" shows, at least the "Fast 'n Loud" characters are not at each other's throats. And they do lose money occasionally, on their restomods and flips, which I find refreshingly realistic.

I get a kick out of Richard Rawling's persona and antics, generally. However, that tattoo on his arm ("31:59") denotes his status as a current, world, automotive record holder:

From the Discovery Channel's Site:
"He is the current world record holder in the Cannonball Run and was even recognized by Jay Leno for this achievement, having broken the record that stood since 1979. He covered the 2,811 miles from New York to Los Angeles in 31 hours and 59 minutes with an average speed of 87.6 miles per hour."
Of course, he had a partner on that run (Dennis?) who had a Ferrari, but still...if it was easy, everybody'd do it, right?

So, really glad to find another fan.

Here is a link to the site for the show, in case others are wondering WT* I'm running on about. Some interesting reading, if one's got some time to kill:
http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/fa...t-the-show.htm

Oh! Under the "Bios" section, for Richard Rawlings, is a video clip showing America's FIRST "Fiberglass car," PRE-DATING the 1953 Corvette by one year. I never even knew about this car before I saw the show. You may find the sale price kind of interesting....

Here is link to the "Bios" section--select Rawling's profile and see the Woodill Wildfire video at the bottom:
http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/fa...d-rawlings.htm

(Caveat: Apparently it's "Shark Week" soon? And half the time when I tried the link for "Fast 'n Loud," it said it was "Devoured by a shark" or some such nonsense. If that happens, you may have to self-naviagate on the Discovery Channel's site).

My apologies to the OP (and any others?) for getting "off track" here (pun intended, keithinspace. )

To the OP: I'm following this thread with interest, as my budget and interests are the same as yours. I hope you succeed, so I might too! LOL
