You're right, but to be fair, the local garage didn't do the conversion. A performance racing shop did and I'm not happy with their final product. Overall a good job, but lacking in small and not so small details.

I don't think it's flooding or dumping gas like the local guy said. I plan on checking the carb with the tach, vacuum gauge, and installing the fuel filter. It ran great the other day when I went to town and topped off the tank.

But, I wonder how the gas changeover to spring from winter grade might affect it. Also, I'm using NON-ethanol in it. Fastrac here has it in premium grade, which I need anyway. When I switched from the damn E-15 to the non-ethanol, the performance improved dramatically. Other gas stations are getting the non-ethanol here, too.

If you find that tuning your carb is a little more than you care to tackle, I'd say look for a mechanic somewhere in Central Square or even Syracuse. I'm not from your area, but I travel through that way from time to time. There is a Corvette club in Syracuse and I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction. Just Google Syracuse Corvette Club for their website. Good Luck!

Hey Duane

The performance shop that did the conversion is actually in Central Square. I will not be going back to them. Nice guys, but...

I also belong to the Syracuse Corvette Club, though not very active. I want/need to learn to tune the carb. Send me a PM if you'll be in the area sometime.

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

They didn't install a fuel filter between the pump and carb? Rubber hose? I wouldn't go back either.

Edelbrock doesn't make the 8873 fuel filter anymore; I have one with a new filter I can send you. However, I recommend you fabricate a proper fuel line to avoid an engine fire with the rubber line.

I’ll post some pics of the fuel line I built for my Edelbrock 1405 (very similar to your 1411) when I get home.

Hey Steve,

You woulda thunk that, huh? LOL

I'm not a mechanic, but I'm aware of the extremely high heat conditions under the hood and cracks and disintegration of the rubber.
For the price I paid for the conversion, a metal fuel line should have been included while doing the build.

I'll post a couple of pics of the setup.

Steve,

Here's the setup. I need to clean the engine but waiting for winter to be over! The cleaning solutions would freeze. LOL

Do you think they didn't use a metal fuel line due to the various angles from the fuel line down in front of the engine?

Bob,

I think they were lazy, but let's not beat a dead horse

Step 1:

Get a proper fuel line and filter in place. No use in tuning if your carb is fouling from not having a filter.

This what I did:

Used a 3/8'' x 40'' Napa straight brake line, fuel filter for an '85 Vette, and some russell fittings:

Utilized the following tools, which cost me $40 and rented a double flare set from Advance Auto:

Installed:

First fuel line I've ever fabricated, took 4 hours to bend and fit. You can do it
