I remember a few Grand Am races last year that displayed a few spins while warming tires! Ricky Taylor comes to mind (one at Road America I believe) .... oh crap he drives a DP Corvette for his dad.

First off, only the throttle is "drive-by-wire". And stability control isn't as involved as many people think. If the car loses traction, all stability control does is have the engine computer cut the throttle, and uses the ABS module to apply pressure to each brake individualy to try and straighten the car out. It should be seamless until it's needed.
I had a 06 GTO, I have a 75 Corvette, had a 70 Buick Skylark (blown), and a 08 H3, and a 83 4x4 Chev diesel. I hate drive-by-wire because it lags. I've done the spinout in the GTO, you jump on the throttle, it starts moving slowly but you're turning. Suddenly the computer thinks "Oh yeah, WOT" of course, that hesitation will get you every time. The blown buick was 2x faster, had a lighter throttle, and 3.73 (and 700 dyno proven hp) - I never spun it. The GTO, might as well been a wash machine for how many times I've done unintended 360s in the car.
The H3, even worse - try rocking it out of a hole - or go WOT to get wheelspeed to get out of a hole... not-a-chance... you can't even power brake it. When I get a moment to figure it out, the drive-by-wire is gone.... it's beyond an annoyance, given the right circumstance, it could cause serious injury or death. I'm irritated enough at it, that should I ever find the moronic engineer that put lag in the throttle response that I'd beat him (or her) silly. There isn't even a comparison for the diesel. (not to mention the moron that designed the turn-off-the-rear-locker at 30mph... newsflash, wheelspeed is what you need in mud applications - turning the locker off when you're finally moving is beyond stupid). Oh yeah, and HPTuners.... forget it, they don't write their software to modify the drive-by-wire system.

Stability control.... oh yeah, that's a rich one - useless because all it does is kill the power. So here's the scenario, the car starts to slide - all the warning lights go off and it cuts engine power. If you could feather off the throttle, that'd be awesome because you'd have the car all collected and keep going.... but no, it cuts the power and suddenly you have traction - all while you're going sideways. You're going too slow to have the one-wheel-braking to have any effect so now you're on your roof or taking a detour through the forest at a 90* angle to your former direction of travel. My favorite is 4hi and getting wheelspeed - now the H3 computer thinks "oh no, cut power"... really morons? it's no wonder no one shed a tear when Hummer went out of business.

before illness, I have a motto when in doubt gas it! you get sideways either keep the fuel on or like the man said feather it, don't lift completly! do that and you might as well aim for the ditch! you do have to have a lil courage? traction control, yes very rich! lol!
