Default door adjustment help

Hello All,

I believe my passenger side door (72) is sagging a little and would like to know the procedure to adjust it so the handle doesn't stick when trying to open it. I did a search on "door adjustment" and "door lifting" but didn't fond what I need. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

andy

Andy its a lot of trial and error. The service manual gives little information, other than the obvious. The hinge bolts inside the door give up and down adjustment, the bolts inside the pillar give fore and aft adj, with room for a little up and down. Shims under the pillar hinges allow you to fair the door to the fenders. Check your hinges for wear, if there is any movement you can buy new bushings and pins to tighten them up. This alone could be your issue.
Otherwise, I would mark the door latch striker position, remove it and start playing with the pillar bolts, I have found these bolts to give me most of the adjustability needed. A helper to hold the door is nice, putting shims under the door along the rocker panel to temporarily hold the door where you want it works to.
Now if you you have removed the body from the chassis at some point, it's entirely possible a little body shimming is required, but we don't want to go there just yet.
Once the door fairs in nicely, reattach your striker, it may be necessary to move it from its old location a bit.
