My 76 corvette needs a paint job pretty bad, just do not have the funds yet. Every time I turn around people still tell me nice car and it sounds awesome ( 454 with sidpipes ). Now see if anyone pulls up to the scion and tells him " nice car ". I bet nobody.

The vettes in the late 70's were dogs. I test drove one, and my 78 camaro I had at the time was faster.

Dont race race him, you will lose.

Yep, they sure put a lot more horsepower in the fours and sixes these days. A young coworker never misses the chance to tell me how fast the Nissan GTR is and that it will beat many Corvettes. I've told him, I'd never buy one, even if I had the dough, because for that kind of coin, it better look good too. The GTR is just another Japanese sedan with a lot of horsepower. I'm not impressed with the looks and within ten years or maybe twenty, it will be nearly forgotten.

Same with the Scion. Just another high horsepower econobox that has all the excitement of stale crackers. I'll take my slowpoke 74' with the old L48 and the four speed over any of the crud they're selling now.

Not my call. I'd advise against it.

Be careful what you post about Scion's racing Vettes. Some people may take your statement out of context.

I don't buy old classic corvettes to race every car under the sun. I prefer to step on it out in the country on an empty road than next to some idiot at a stop light.

Several of our friends seen it , and for those who missed it at our last gathering in 2012 I asked him if he could tell if my break lights where working ,, he replies ya I think so ...HA HA HA HA HA that was all he had to say the whole group litterly laughed to tears ..

Now over the winter this guy invests in DOT approved slicks , carb , and rear air bags to keep the car from torquing when he hammers it all because he insists he will never be behind me again ... So I did my top end to go from 350hp to 430hp hoping I can hold my light to light edge ! And if I do , I ordered a new license plate ,,, It is subtle and says .. UHAVLOST ..............
not arguing just asking w/a 60/40 weight distribution on your Vette how do you keep the car from going up in smoke? a Chevelle has a closer to the 50/50 and I drag race w/a T/Buick and I have a friend w/a monster 572cid BBC Pro charged 71 Vette, I get a much better 60ft time than he does and our trap speeds are close>his BBC@129mph and my T/Buick@128mph however my et's are around 10.50's -10.70's depending on ambient temps, his et's are low 11's and on a good day I've seen him break into the high 10's and I run BF-DOT/drag radials and he runs MT slicks. Whats your secret? I quess much less hp than the Chevelle? and he was'nt getting that 600 hp to the ground?

LOL!! I'll step in for you instead and be proud of eating a ricer roni mobile.
If you and he lived in my area that is......

If you ever guess if you can beat the ricer or not, it's best to pass on it. Look on the bright side, his car will be worth maybe around 500 bucks, at best 35 years later.

Quote from a spec site "The 1980 Corvette offers a nearly even weight distribution with 48.9 percent of its weight over its front axle and 51.1 percent of its weight distributed in the rear"

I do not suffer from the delusion i can beat a 600hp car .. but in the first 200 feet or so I got him. His explanation to all of us was , "I had to let off the gas and hit it again because it was spinning so hard"

Plus if you new me you would not pull along side of me because i am 1) Lucky , you may stall or be parked on lose gravel 2) if I do beat ya the beating you get from the group aint worth the chance.

In the end I got nothing to lose , he should beat me in anyone's eyes. Just listen to our cars running and you will say ha that vette is dead ..

And remember we are both street cars not on track and we are just messing around , was my winning pure luck ? Maybe I have no reason to run him again unless there are no witnesses

In my college days, we had a student with the baddest 69 BB 396 ci Chevelle SS with a blower, 4.10 gears blah blah. Claiming he was the speed king of the campus.

To make the story short, he got his *** handed to him by 1970 SB 350 LT1 Z28.

Chevelle could not get off fast as Camaro from the start and Camaro WHOOPED his *** by 6 car length at least in a quarter.

Driver who can handle the power matters more than who's got more horses...

Like I said earlier, most of the C3's are cruisers. I don't think anyone was saying otherwise when they came rolling out of the factory with under 200 HP and weighing as much as they did. When you think that the cars are over 30 years old and were completely raped by emissions, Im honestly glad that they can make it to 80mph. Some people enjoy their cars as a piece of history or just stock. Others like them to go fast, but if you like the latter, you probably got the wrong car unless you were planning on doing a build from the ground up.

Several of our friends seen it , and for those who missed it at our last gathering in 2012 I asked him if he could tell if my break lights where working ,, he replies ya I think so ...HA HA HA HA HA that was all he had to say the whole group litterly laughed to tears ..
"Saw" would have been the appropriate word to use there.

I wonder how many times the scion owner will be asked "What year is your scion?" and "Can I take a look under the hood?" "You mind if my son sit in your car?" questions at a gas station...

Thats fine, but "how can you guys sleep getting beat by etc etc" is just a dumb comment, maybe others enjoy their cars differently than you. I know for sure I enjoy the fact that I can run around town, get thumbs up from people all over the place, and its only got 190hp (realistically WAY less because its 39 years old). My car looks nice, sounds even better, and is something unusual running down the road. That's where I find my joy in it, I couldn't really care less if the civic next to me could whoop my *** because the people driving in the cars all around us are looking at mine, not his.

I live in the sticks we gotta track near by BUT we do ahem street race, good thing about it this straight-away we use [no ditch] out in the country closest house is 3 miles away has been marked off since the late 1960's we even have a local cop that bring's his 70 fastback 351 cleveland powered mustang out there once in awhile do I condone it? no, do I do it yes!
