Thats fine, but "how can you guys sleep getting beat by etc etc" is just a dumb comment, maybe others enjoy their cars differently than you. I know for sure I enjoy the fact that I can run around town, get thumbs up from people all over the place, and its only got 190hp (realistically WAY less because its 39 years old). My can looks nice, sounds even better, and is something unusual running down the road. That's where I find my joy in it, I couldn't really care less if the civic next to me could whoop my *** because the people driving in the cars all around us are looking at mine, not his.
In my college days, we had a student with the baddest 69 BB 396 ci Chevelle SS with a blower, 4.10 gears blah blah. Claiming he was the speed king of the campus.
To make the story short, he got his *** handed to him by 1970 SB 350 LT1 Z28.
Chevelle could not get off fast as Camaro from the start and Camaro WHOOPED his *** by 6 car length at least in a quarter.
Driver who can handle the power matters more than who's got more horses...
I've seen something very similar, 2 Camaro's 67's same 3,73 rear gear 4 speeds, 1-396BB and 1-327 SB they were brothers and it didn't matter who drove who's car the 327 would win every time.
I'm fine cruising around town in my low powered 82

Miles
crossfired Vette, its the car not the HP.....for that we bring out the well mannered T/TYPE a Wolf in Sheeps clothing and I sleep very well at night, thank you
We each have different ideas , the OP mentioned a scion , why does the scion owner want to race a corvette ?
Well the reason is "The American Sports car " That is what our cars are , that is the dream that many , many owners bought into and the biggest buyers of that idea are the people who never had the pleasure of owning one and admire them from the bleachers.
How many have herd people say this blank will smoke a corevette !! Face it our cars are the gold standard by which other cars are measured in the car community.
Sadly many owners of a corvette act like there driving gods chariot , accepting the attention yet never sharing that corvette experience with the on lookers.
Well Mini vans , trucks and who ever you are .. Pull up next to my mint fully restored corvette and race your engine... You will get the experience because I love sharing it

The Vette is GM's flagship and it SHOULD run like it looks, however EPA got involved amoung other things.....the american sports car got strangled. To tell you the truth I'm not happy with the low powered performance of my 82 Vette, we are now putting in a mildly built SB 355cid all the goodies keeping the WELL PORTED crossfire intake AT least it'll run [well educated] quess mid-high 13's w/a trap around 100mph, [368hp@388ftlbs of torque at the crank]. And then AT least I'll beat the Scion! and MAYBE a few 5.0's on the way?

looking like 200mph Vette in the weeds! yes that aint right! SS or not its still a dam pic-up! I mean I have a race car but really high 15's at the very best? in a Vette? thats wrong. to each there own, but I'll do a lil better than that! I took the ole SS trk down at kil-kare just to see what it would do-no traction of idle start 14.60's @ 96mph in a brick! and then here I come with the sleeksilvershark barely breaking a 15.9@ hell I forget? 80 something mph in the 1/4 thats wrong!
Ha ...... thanks !!!! Nice to see someone who gets it
Plenty of people get it but any thread like this ends in a lot of self justification and butt hurt.
......but it's a cruiser. HAHA! NO! It's an iconic American sports car. If you want a cruiser, buy an Impala or an Olds 88.
And then you have the guys who insist value is going to go down if that precious #s matching boat anchor is ditched for a real engine.
It always bugged me that my Geo (140 HP, 2300 lbs) would mop the floor with my stock L48 C3. And I knew something was seriously wrong when I bought a new Suzuki motorcycle and it had 10 MORE HP than the Corvette parked next to it in the garage.
