If you have considered replacing the rear spring with fiberglass, you will want to consider adjustable. I have a glass spring with Koni's adjusted a little stiffer than normal.
I have had Monroe (all 4 leaked in 2 years), and KYB. I have Bilstein Sport in my vette (all performance) and Bilstein HD in my SUV. My vette handles awesome, but has a very firm ride. My SUV had stock Ford shocks and Monroe shocks, but handles and rides better than ever with the Bilstein HD's. Bilstein's are definitely worth the money.
I also have the Bilstein Sports on my 82, the ride on the highway is great, but local bumps are different....thinking about trading for Bilstein HD's with anyone who is looking for Sports, as I hear they are more forgiving as a "dd".
Now the PO had Koni's on the 82 when I bought it, or so he said. They also handle great, but I did not feel that much of a difference when I put the Bilstein's on about 3000 miles ago. I must be getting old
Just want it a little bit softer on the bumps....
To the OP.....it really depends on what type of ride you want and the type of driving that you do. If all roads were totally smooth, I would keep my sports, there isn't any body roll going around the curves at all
Can those of you who went Bilstein explain why you chose HD??? I understand the "sport" choice but why HD?
The HD's will give you the ride quality that you want like most of us for street use, with the occasional "spirited outing". The sport shocks are set up for a stiffer dampening and rebound - many guys actually say the ride is a little too stiff.
Just checked CC's catalogue (free shipping right now - code SPRING13) #572367 KYB Gas (Set of 4) $199.95
#572134 Bilstein HD (Set of 4) $299.95
Worth an extra C-note to me.

I'm reading online that some people are saying the valving inside the HD and Sports are exactly the same, it's just the sports are meant to be used with lowered ride height. any truth in this?

I would like to know also, as it would be counterproductive to sell the Sports I have and get the HD's if they are the same. I could just get another higher quality gas shock and give them a try....
good find on that, let's hope there is an answer....

This is from Bilstein:
The lengths are the same.
The damping rates are:
front HD 1525/855 (rebound rate/compression rate, in newtons)
front sport 1810/1050
First off you guys are great... Taking time with the advice side of something with which I have very little first hand knowledge, sure makes it easier to buy with confidence. I love this forum. Very helpful, guys, thanks.
