i finally took a little time to take a better look at the 77 i recently acquired. when i pulled back the carpet it seems the original carpet was under it. it appears to have been re carpeted at one time and they just simply went over the top of the old carpet.. could this have been a good idea or common place 20 years ago? i can actually almost see the insulation sound deadening factor or was it just plain laziness? you tell me!

Hi billy,
Is yours a 'late' built car?
Often near the end of the model year they would put 2 sets of carpet in the cars to use up the extras.

Alan

but getting back on topic... has anyone else ever ran across this before? as i said was this a common thing to do to add extra insulation or sound deadener before maybe dynomat was available? and i pulled it back. my floors are in excellent condition. not trying to be a party pooper. im just curious. i can almost see the reasoning behind it.

I think it got off topic (my bad... ) because there's really know way of knowing what another person was thinking....the PO could have done it for any number of reasons...she's yer's now....fix her right...
