What is the best way (most efficient and economical) to ship a big block Chevy engine, fully enclosed on a pallet? Going from KY to Massachusetts.

I have heard that you can actually ship things via Greyhound bus very cheaply....no experience with it as there is not a Greyhound terminal nearby.....

I sold a 1931 Chevy "Stovebolt Six" to a guy in Texas a couple years ago. He had me band it to a pallet, and drop it off at a Yellow Freight terminal. I also wrapped it in shrink wrap, but there was no enclosed crate. I loaded it into the back of the pick-up truck with my cherry picker, and they off loaded it at the truck terminal with a fork lift.
I have shipped parts by Greyhound like fenders & bumpers, but I don`t know how they would load an engine.

get a freight quote. the shippers will want a NMFC code number. the lower the number (say 30 or 50) will get a better price than a higher number (100 or 150). it depends upon the weight per cubic foot, what it is, is it stackable, and if it's new or used. surprisingly, a heavy small object(say an engine on a pallet that is 3x3x3=27 cubic feet and weighs 700 pounds) will be cheaper to ship than a cardboard box 5x5x5 that weighs 50 pounds). weight is cheap-volume is costly.

Shipped one from Ohio to Ca last year. I used R&L trucking and dropped it off at a local terminal. I made an enclosed stand of wood and steel strapped the stand to a pallet. I have pics of it someplace if you need ideas regarding the stand.
