I just came upon a 1972 T Top with L 82 motor and auto trans. Has documented 36k on the clock. Original paint, interior, motor and just everything. It is an estate type auction that is handling it locally.
Wish I could have found it before they got it but at least I am on it now.
Will be a few weeks for the sale but considering it is a very nice driver and survived this long any thoughts on how high I should go? I don't plan to restore just want a cool stock original car to have fun with and not worry about a scratch here or there. Did I say it has NEVER been wrecked either!!
So many variables...seeing pictures and knowing options would help. 36k sounds great - how long did the car sit? How was it stored? Rust? What's it worth? In this market? Maybe 18-20k - but again, I think we need more info.
A 1996 oil change sticker shows 34,456 miles on her. Paint is really excellent, leather seats with one tear in driver lower. am/fm cassette, AC, PS PB, tilt AC. No rust Calif car. All bumpers and lamp lids fit perfect. Doors open like new.
Will try to take pics tomorrow and post later after work if I can. Original license plates.
Hi TV,
Sounds like you have a lead on a VERY nice car.
I'm curious though.....
I don't think the L-82 engine was offered during the 1972 model year.
The small block engines offered were the base 200hp (L-48), and the 255 hp Lt-!.
I believe the LT-! was offered with only the 4-speed transmission.
So you might want to make sure just what engine this car has since that will greatly affect it's value AND what you might want to offer for it.
I believe beginning in 72 one of the letters in the vin indicated what engine, (cu. in./h.p.) the car left St.Louis with.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
Perhaps you mistakenly called it an L-82 instead of LT-!... but then the auto transmission becomes a problem.
In 1996 the car was already 24 years old and 136,000 looks just like 36,000 on these odometers. I would need a bit more documentation on the actual mileage beside an oil change sticker.
Sorry about that engine info as I looked at the VIN quick and then later looked at a book. I will photo if I can tomorrow. I think it was a K but will get this straight. It even had the owners manual and all the paper you get when new from GM. I saw it in the rear compartment. I will dig deeper into the original motor issue and miles.
I think HOOAH might be on to something about the "cassette" player. I have a '78 with an AM FM 8-track player. Are you sure you're not just seeing what is really an 8-track instead of a cassette? And if it's really a cassette player might it be an aftermarket?? Just trying to zero in on whether it is an unmolested car.
I was just wondering if the PO had put the 8-track in at a later date. That is assuming he didn't have to cut the bezel but wanted more than a radio for tunes. Again, a picture of the console might help.
Put my glasses on and slapped myself for the imput of wrong info. It is a "K" for the motor and no cassette, am/fm only. VIN is 1Z37K22S525834 Trim 421 and paint 972 Working on pics and also block deck # now.
Not real happy with how these posted from photobucket but maybe it can be fixed. I could not find any body work on her. Motor looks like the original, need to clean off the block number more to read.
