Looking for help with the value of a 1968 vert - with hard top 4 speed 23,000 miles same owner for 25 years not driven for the last 5years original paint - silver exterior blk interior 327 said it has the sport pkg? Has the tank sticker
Am going to see the car tomorrow but thought if I could get a heads up with a ball park if its everything he says is correct -his asking price is $35,000 I know their are a lot of variables with this description but I am a c2 guy and looking at this because of its originality
Than. In advance I will take pics and try to post them later tomorrow
Anything I should pay attention to or look at that are known issues , please chime in
Again thanx
Csysman
Someone posted the other day, about a similar 69.....everyone was talking 4 grand to 12 grand....it was a t top car
35k is crazy if you ask me....probably can find a decent big block car t top car for that price...or some other low mileage car...they did make more convertibles in 68 than t tops (of what I read online, which surprised me)

not apples and oranges....but still
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-corvette-427-match-number-big-block-tri-power-and-side-pipes-/111030640850?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item19d9f120d2
beat up some, but personally I would rather go for this
Coupe production was delayed until about serial #9400 in late December or early January. Rumor has it that they couldn't get the t-top fit to function properly. There was approximately twice as many convertibles built than there were coupes. Around 9,936 coupes and 18,630 convertibles.

The variables you mention... No bird cage rust, clean frame, ten footer, everything in working order DESPITE sitting that long, pretty clean interior, relatively scratch free glass, PLUS all the documentation leaving you absolutely no doubt about the accuracy of the odometer... Tank sticker, numbers matching, (not sure if factory AC was an option for that 68), no leaks, clean under the hood... Even then, as a survivor (which personally I think is just a selling ploy for dealers who don't want to invest in restoration), it's still 10 grand too high for that engine, that year...
Not to dissuade you, if she's cherry bargain him down... If not 19 - 24 would be high end ballpark, IMO
I am not sure what the "sport package" is. Is the car an L79 (327/350 hp)?
I think I agree with what most people are saying. Even if this 68 was an L79 (they made around 9000 L79s that year if I recall), AC (it was an option), pristine, all original, all documents award winning, no rust, etc, 35k is still high.
Please post some pictures of the car, inside and out. Take care, john
Also, 68's have a ton of one year only, even some one part of 68 only, parts. MANY are not reproduced. The pictures will tell us a lot.
I agree with all above statements my gut feeling 18-22 tops for the survivor was more in line if all checks out
I so appreciate the advise makes me feel better about not making a mistake
Thanx again for your input ... Will keep u posted

The rumor was based in fact. They had teething pains with top fit and weatherstrip sealing. Folks forget the C3 coupe was originally drawn up to have a targa top. When that didn't work, the t-bar was added.

If the 23,000 miles can be documented it definitely adds to the value. Also, if it's an L 79/350 horse it would get an additional bump. Price is too high in any event and getting into big block territory. As a midyear owner, you know where to look for rust. Good luck.
Hi csy,
IF this car, "as it is", would be a serious NCRS BowTie Award candidate it might be worth that kind of money to some one who wanted to have a BowTie car.
Not too many people have the $$$ and the desire and understanding to want an NCRS BowTie car, but they are certainly around.
The word survivor really means so many things now, it's just like the word original. The question is how much of this car has been untouched since it left St.Louis? That's what will set it apart from other 'just old cars'. That will help determine it's value.
Regards,
Alan
Checked it out early this morning drove to his home checked the car out - Complete bust -Survivor my a$$ odometer at 59000 not 23,000 asked him what was he on when he was describing this car - not original paint -big block hood -(small block engine numbers did match )- wrong air cleaner - two tone seats - I could go on for 20 more minutes - waist of time - offered him $10,000 and thought I was generous..
Thanx - didnt mean to waist all that have replied time

Mike. My coupe is Jan 22 built. The order was placed in November 1967. Possibly one of the earliest coupes with a 427. That and a $1.25 might get you a cup of coffee.

....can't count the number of Corvette "stories" I've chased down. Welcome to the club.
...I responded once to an ad in a local paper. Lady's son was killed in Vietnam and she was selling his 1953 Chevy for $300. Turned out to be a '53 Corvette.
...I've heard this one so many times now at car shows I always finish it for the person telling it.
