Default dash cap

Keen Corvette offers a dash cap for my 73. Has anyone ever purchased and installed this item, and how did it work out for you? Did it look bad?

Thanks
Jack

I have tried two on different cars. One looked fine but the other I returned because of the fit and bit the bullet and bought a regular dash pad. More expensive? yes. Looks better? 100%.
I think the caps might be a hit or miss depending on the shape of the old dash it's going on. Good luck.

The word on the street is that they don't look that good and don't last very long before peeling and cracking. I don't have any first hand experience (I bought a new dash).

Now, I were doing it all over again, I would stronly consider taking my old dash pad and having an upholsterer (or do it myself), sew up a vinyl or leather cover for it that would adhere over the top ...complete with visible stitching. To me, I think that would really look great, modernize the look of the interior, and get away from the fitment issues that go along with aftermarket dash pads. Plus, it would look really 'trick'!

I've even seen where a certain vendor recommended against purchasing them. BTW that vendor also sold that item.

When we purchased our '77 there was a brand new cap (still in the box) that came with the car. It's a budget build and a new dash pad was not an option so I went for it and used it. Spent about 3 hours working on fit and finish with how it fit over the old pad etc. It actually looked really nice and I was happy with the results.

Then I rolled it out into the driveway to clean up the garage floor. 2 hours later the sun had warped it and separated the covers layers.

I won't do anything with it until I can put a new pad on it.

Tried a cap on an 82 was junk and manufacturer did not stand behind it at all. Purchased a new dash a little better but a far cry from OEM.

I guess I'll be the counterpoint on this one. I used one on my '78, but I installed it with the dash out of the car. I did the installation in three phases (separate days) so that I could use all of my clamps on a smaller area. I also used two tubes of RTV.

It came out great, has been on for over a year and still looks terrific.
