I am working on a 70 that I am bringing back to driving condition for my wife. I want to insulate the interior for heat and sound but am not sure what product will get the job done.
Has anyone tried using this stuff from Mid America?
Another place you might want to check with, is B-Quiet.com. For $10 bucks they'll send you a sample card with some of thier products. I did this for a friend, and product quality looks good, with good prices. Worth checking into. Place is in Canada, so shipping takes a bit longer.
What heat source(s) are you trying to eliminate? If you don't know [for sure] where the unwanted heat is getting into the interior, installing 'stuff' is a bit premature. Diagnose the problem(s), THEN develop a solution.
There are at least a dozen 'usual and customary' ways for unwanted heat to enter the interior. Floor insulation will help with a couple of them.
Dynamat is more of a sound / vibration dampener, this shouldn't be confused for heat protection devices (think quality car audio). I've heard good things about the Mid America etc packages, though the Home Depot material will work just as well provided it's applied and installed correctly.
Check out the various threads, you'll see there are specific fixes for specific issues.
FWIW: the Mid-America kit is C3 specific and would save you some time trimming and fitting. Skip the JEGS - it's generic universal and there isn't much "universal" in a C3.
i believe dynamat makes a heat shield. i called them once for this exact situation. they told me what products to use to cut down on heat and road noise. expensive stuff. i never got around to doing it though.
Ebay Fatmat on the floor/doors for noise. Lowes reflexit for heat over that. Then jute backed carpet. Inexpensive, very effective for both heat and noise.

Wouldn't you want to install the heat barrier first and apply the sound deadening material on top of it?

I put a shut off valve on the hose to my heater core and the heat was drastically reduced. Cost $4 at the local hardware store.

I have thought about adding one of these..... how do you control it? If I put one in I would like its operation to be integrated into the existing heater controls.

You can't control it through your normal heater controls, you have to pop the hood to open or close the valve. If your heating system is functioning properly, it should automatically do this, but I don't drive when it's cold so the heat controls don't mean much to me.
The fatmat is a heavy adhesive backed material. You need mass to decrease sound. Adhering to the panel decreases the resonance. Fatmat needs to adhere.
Temp insulation is the opposite, low mass. The reflexit is foil with air between. That goes on top of the fatmat if you want to use it.

Dynamat for sound.. Reflectix for heat... No regrets. Dynamat is expensive but definitely worth it. Reflectix is inexpensive and certainly has reduced the cockpit heat to nearly nonexistent. Both good stuff. Good luck

This is what I used and worked great. I compared against Dynamat and looked the same material/thickness, but much cheaper.
i am planning on using this kit...but only because the gave it to me when i bought the new carpet set he had for sale,it feels like a pretty good addition to the fake "horse hair" on the back of the carpet which is 1/2" thick itself.
