Can someone explain to me why the same bezel ... but with a CD cut out for DIN as opposed to the **** Stereo cut out is so much different in price ? It is just a cut out right ? Cant a Dremel fix this ?
I assume that while the custom one is only widened, its still a clean finished part, that they had to make (produce) as opposed to cutting a stock one. On top of that, they will sell far less of the custom ones than the correct stock ones, making them even more expensive to produce.
If the difference in price is so much and its an easy customization, then just buy a stock one and cut it up.
My bezel had already had some cutting on it by the previos owner.Delt with a Future Shop installer that ordered me a cover that fit into the stereo area of the bezel.Did the job well looks finished.Cost about $25.00.
Use the stock GM stereo and you won't have to fret over aftermarket prices. The precut bezels allow you to mount a DIN sized aftermarket stereo without having to cut your original bezel.
Hi m,
I guess the modified bezel's price is taking advantage of the fact that SOME people who want to change their radio don't have either the tool needed, or the skill required, (or both), to modify their existing bezel.
Regards,
Alan
I briefly considered a CD player. But the way I see it, CD's in cars will go the way of 8 Tracks and cassettes non too soon. Digital music on flash drives or iPods will be in vogue for some time to come. I opted to go with a standard bezel and retro looking radio with an Aux plug-in for my music.

Stingray-Jer, The reason that the 68 bezel is more is because they have to sand off the pebble finish bumps that GM put on the bezels in 69. I have never had glare from my gauge bezel or shifter bezel and will never understand why GM changed them. Lou.

For what it is worth, I purchased my "custom" 71 bezel from one of the forum vendors (not Willcox) and was sorely disappointed when it arrived. The "custom" bezel was nothing more than a cut up original (or reproduction more likely) with a dash plate put over top. The one I received still had a small amount of the text from the two shafts hidden behind the plastic DIN plate. I wish someone would make one that is all metal and actually a custom bezel!
I bought a used bezel off eBay, and used a dremel to cut out excess material. It took a little while, but worked fine. Also, you can purchase a plastic piece that covers the sides of the raised portion of the bezel and makes it look good. I don't have the name of that plastic part but it's been mentioned on the forum multiple times.
