New to the Fourm, I am looking at a 1971 LT1 Coupe from a dealer out west, I live on the east coast. I have seen pictures and the car "looks" good, the dealer sent some info-below. A couple of things stand out like the wippers dont work, the drivers door has a few spots of very small bubbles. Anyone see any other red flags, additionally the ad says all new suspension. I have pictures of the underside, frame etc. and it is extreamly clean, even looks like new mufflers.

"Car has been repainted and is in good driver quality condition, nice but there are some rough spots, the drivers door has a few spots of very small bubbles. The frame has been replaced and the undercarriage has been restored and very nice, the engine, transmission and rear end appear to have been rebuilt, the car runs and drives very well. All the Lights function, the headlamp doors will not open with the headlight switch but will open with the override switch, the wiper door lifts up but the wipers will not work, the horn and clock are not working, the interior looks like it is the original but it is in pretty good shape, some wear and light cracking on the door panels."
rich - i've bought a few cars sight unseen and the other guy's descriptions are always lacking for me. good "driver" quality and "appear to have been" would send me else where. an over ride switch? why not replace with a working system switch or find the problem? of course this all depends on price and trust.
Rich,
Maybe one of our members could take a look at the car for you? If you let us know the general area, I'm sure there will be a member that could take a look at it for you and give you an honest appraisal.
Always have the car inspected, either personally or by a reputable third party. There's been more than a few new members, who've purchased cars based on photo's and descriptions, only to find out later on, that what looked good from ten feet, looks awful close-up and personal or at an unflattering angle.
You also have to be cautious about what is disclosed and what is not disclosed. Sure it looks good in the pictures, but what does it look like close up and personal, underneath, inside and throughout?
If you are serious about this car, book the air fare, fly out to the coast, and take a look at it.
+1
If seller is asking original car and engine money and you don't how to tell the difference between a good clone/restamp and an original, hire somebody that does.
Hi Rich,
When looking at LT-! cars their originality is so important in determining a particular car's desirability.
The price that's being asked should reflect what THIS particular car is.
The only way to determine it's value is to have a very knowledgeable person take a serious look at it in person. Not an 'appraisal', a detailed, knowledgable, inspection.
The replaced frame and list of non functioning parts makes ME nervous, but not so nervous as to not check it out. Often when a car has had frame problems it's had birdcage cage problems too. Is this a car that's been brought back from the dead because it's an LT-!?
With what LT-! cars cost it's certainly desirable to find/buy one with very few or no 'issues'.
What kind of car are you looking for? A car to work on? A car to tinker with? A car that's ready to drive anywhere? A car for shows and judging?
Be cautious!
Regards,
Alan
