Default Source for alarm key switch?

Anyone know of a source for the later style alarm system key switch? Zip, Ecklers, CC, and Wilcox only list the early style, with the Briggs and Stratton key. Doc Rebuild list two different part numbers and no pictures, so I am not too sure about what they have.
Thanks.

Thought the late model alarm key was the door key. Early model was the ignition key.

Wasn't the Briggs Stratton key for the spare tire lock?

I no longer use the factory alarms anymore, and now have modern remote systems in my cars. You may want to check with Waytek Wire, as has has some of the largest selection of eletrical switches and plugs I've seen.

I have a 1970, July build. Early 1970 models used a switch with smaller keys, and the switch was held in by a large nut on the back. Sometime in mid to late 1970, they changed over to the later style switch, which used the same key as the glove box and spare tire lock. This later switch was held in by a slide on clamp. Everyone seems to have the earlier style switch with the smaller keys. I can use it if I have to, but would prefer to install the correct switch.

I have a couple of switches with no keys you could have a locksmith rekey one to fit your car.

There were 3 different alarm switches used, between 1968 and 1977.

The 68 to early 70 alarm, used a switch made by Briggs and Stratton. The Briggs and Stratton switch used a small key, that was different from the typical GM keys.

Late 70's to 73 alarms, used an alarm switch that looked like the GM door lock, and was operated by the factory round GM key.

For 74, the switch was moved from the rear body, to the left front fender, the switch was changed. It looked the same externally, as the 70-73 switch, but the terminals on the back of it, and it's operation, are different. Part way through 77, control of the alarm was incorporated into the drivers door lock, and the fender mounted alarm switch was eliminated.

The 68-70 switch is still available. The 70-73 switch, was recently discontinued. The 74-77 may still be available from Chevrolet, I haven't checked on their availability lately.

I agree with all you say. It is the late 70-73 switch that I need, the one that has been recently discontinued, so I am finding out.

Thanks for the information. Looking at the web site, I see they have them. $42 each, plus $15 shipping makes it pretty steep for one little switch. I will call them tomorrow and verify the shipping cost before ordering.

Volunteer Vette is out of stock also and claim they have been for some time, with no clear target date for restock.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

longbro, i ordered that switch a couple months ago from 2 other vendors and they could not locate the switch.then three weeks ago i put in another order for assorted parts with volunteer vette and they came through with the switch, maybe talk with them again and see if they can contact the manufacturer for a ship date.i would hope that they can locate another switch for you.some times these little parts are frustrating to locate.

I talked with them at length this morning and it was clear that they did not have any and were not sure if and when they might have them again.

I called and talked with Doc Rebuild. They had one GM switch left in stock, so I bought that. It was expensive!!! They were our of stock of the less expensive overseas knock offs, and had no target date in sight for them.
