Default Headlight play??

I have some up and down play in my 82 headlights and can't figure out where it's coming from. First off I have done the electric conversion (thanks to all who have helped) but it did this even before that. And what I mean is if the headlight are in the up position abd you take your hand to the leading edge there is some up and down play. About a 1/16" or so, enough that when you hit a bump the light pattern jumps. I have replaced all bushings except the two pivot bushings. I don't think it's coming from those because there is no play at the back where those are at. Any ideas?? Or maybe it is those pivot bushings???

I don't know if the newer styles are the same as the older one but....
On the older ones, the up position is held by a combination of the linkage going over center and the up position stop.
When the lights are fully extended, the springs pull the linkage over-center and the "stop" is what they pull against.
If the stop isn't there or is backed off, the springs just pull against the linkage itself and that is probably where your play is.
Again, on the older ones, here's the up-stop bracket and adjustable pad (mine has a rubber bumper on it, I've found most references seem to be without them)

In the up position, that stop bolt should be contacting the frame and being held tight against it by the springs.

Wow thank you for the great picture. Neither side has that adjusting stop. My bar just the 90 deg. and sits against the housing. There even is "NOT" a hole in the end for one to thread into. I will look into this closely to see if there is something I could wedge between the two.

As I said, not sure about the newer ones.
Look and see if there isn't slots on the two screws that hold that bracket to the frame. On the older ones they just had holes and I've seen pics of those brackets with slots so maybe that's how the new ones adjust the stop location

Holy crap, you were right. After adjustment they are nice and tight. No more play. Thanks a million.
