the PO had redone the interior of my 73 but not completely
he put in new lt. saddle lower dashes the shifter console and recovered the seats.
but left the top dash, door panels and e-brake console in the dark saddle.
the car is currently silver but I have thoughts of orange w/white stripes.
just thinking if I should finish the change over to lt. saddle, paint it all black, or maybe white.
also oddly the driver side lower dash is plain lt. saddle, but the pass side is a lt. saddle with a brown in the grain.
but I don't see the grainy type in the parts catalog?
I don't have a clue what you're asking about, but if you intend to paint the car (orange with white stripes?), hold off on the interior until the new paint is on. You can dye/replace interior parts as they go back on the car.
Light saddle will look good with orange/white car. You can select any of your interior panels to take to a pro auto body paint supply store and have them mix up a quart of SEM ColorCoat vinyl dye to match. If you have to remove most of the interior panels to dye the ones that need it, you might want to re-dye ALL of the parts so they will match well....even the one that was used as the 'master' part.

Ideally, you should shoot the whole lot from the same batch of SEM Color coat. I had to do that, even on bits like the e-brake console, etc, that came new in the correct color.
I'm pretty sure that you could get light saddle interior with O.O. exterior. As far as what you could order: GM offered recommended interior colors with the various exterior colors for each year. But, if you put a significant deposit down on a car that your ordered, you could have [almost] any interior color available placed in any color of car.
...could you get any color interior with any color car...
Yes and No. GM always had recommended color combinations which they preferred folks to use, but the rule of thumb was that if a customer wanted something out of the ordinary AND it would not cost GM anything, the customer could get what he/she wanted.
By about the late 70s, that policy was discontinued and only the recommended color combinations were allowed.
...would onterio orange have come with saddle interior...
Saddle with Ontario Orange was a GM recommended combination.
my concearn is more with the white strips clashing with the saddle interior.
I guess if I held off on the interior til its painted then I could always swap it or paint white to match better.

I've got 73 orange over black leather. I have replaced the carpet since these pics, but you get the idea.
There were [literally] millions of Detroit vehicles that were made with light saddle dash pads. I think only Ralph Nader thought they were too "reflective".

That's nice. As always, thanks for sharing.
I had figured that there was either a factory error on my own car, which is saddle throughout except for a dark saddle dash pad, or that the original owner had swapped it at some point. He claimed that he had never touched anything and that's the way it was delivered new.
The NCRS Judging guide (did you have a coronary yet?) clarifies that a dark saddle dash pad is correct.
I can think of three other examples of the guvvamint forcing changes on Corvettes due to excess reflectivity.
Those were "knee-jerk" reactions to Nader's opinions. Didn't say that Detroit didn't react to them....just that such reactions were absurd. If the upper dash surface is shiny (rather than satin finish), or white, or chrome then we'd all have big problems when driving into the sun.
My opinion is that putting light saddle vinyl dye (not glossy spray paint ) will not be a problem.
