2022 C3 of the Year Finalist - Modified
Default Crack Repair

According to what I have read, my 77 Vette is molded with the SMC fiberglass method. I have several cracks to repair in the car, two of them in the battery / jack compartments and one under the windshield area. My question is what to use to repair. I see that Ecklers and Zip sell a specific resin for SMC fiberglass resin. Can I use this resin along with standard fiberglass mat or cloth to make the repair?

There were several different variants of SMC used during the C3 era. For your later type you should use an epoxy based resin.

In a word, yes. Regular fiberglass cloth and batting work very well with SMC resin. When I repair cracks, I grind away some of the material and fill with batting and resin. I like the batting because it cured, it provides strength in all directions. I use cloth when backing up a joint or seam.
