Here are the interior pics of the '79 vette I'm looking at. It does need a good detailing. I know the boot needs replaced. You can see the dash has no cracks at all. There are a couple of small tears in the seats both passenger and driver. Please give opinions. thanks.
If you replace the shift boot, there is a rubber boot under it. My guess is it will have some tears in it letting hot air enter the cabin. Both it and the leather boot are easy to replace so you might order both at the same time and save a little time and shipping as well keeping your legs from roasting.
Sweet76, thanks for the info on the other boot, we will definitely order both when we get it. Good to know!
I do like the leather/cloth combo too! Good for both hot and cold weather.
That interior looks very nice. I can tell from the lack of wear on the hounds-tooth cloth that the car has low mileage. When the cloth wear the round "dots" become larger and tend to merge. BTW, replacement seat covers like that are difficult if not impossible to find suggesting that it is indeed the original interior.
On the engine compartment, it is all there meaning that it looks unaltered from the factory state. A good sign. The undercarriage is dirty but heck not many of us detail that area of the car. Some engine Gunk and a pressure wash will take care of that. The exhaust is the original 2-1-2 configuration. I can't see the catalytic converter but if it is the original pellet type, replace that with a high-flow honeycomb version. It does wonders for performance.
People poo-poo the 1979 but an L-82 with a four-speed is a very nice combo.
79 was quantity not quality. one of the most produced vettes,, around 54k, where produced that year. so theres plenty of them. i have one, but you can make it better w/ engine / suspension mods. good luck
There is nothing inherently flawed with the 1979. As Speedreed noted it had the largest production run (53,807) of all Corvette years so it carries a bit of a "dime-a-dozen" label. Here is the one I drove and enjoyed for 17 years (sold in 2003).
Yes, I'm going to keep it garaged (we really need a 4 car garage! have Ford Sporttrac and old Jeep Wrangler, as well as husbands GT Mustang). I'm getting a dash cover, will look for something to cover seats with when driving and when it's at work for the day. Windshield suncover, too. Paul, was yours white or a cream color? If its white, the photos make it look cream?
