Default identifying side pipe mufflers, help needed...

Ok here is my problem,

I have hooker super comp headers and side pipes and don't know what mufflers are in it. I would like to get the max flow's as I read the others are quite restricting the engine.

I took one pipe of (after alot of swearing and cursing and alot of help reading on here how to... ) but of course the mufflers are pretty good seized inside.

Can somebody tell from these photo's what kind of mufflers these are ? reverse flow, glass or max flow ?

Thanks

I believe they are the glass. I have had all 3. The reverse flow are quite and restrictive. When you look there is a hole that is off center. The Glass look like what you have. The Max Flows have a bigger opening. But are so loud you have to screen at people in the car so they hear you.

But you are correct, in the right engine, it will breath better which equals more HP.

to remove the muffler take a large pice of softwood, pine, place it on a concrete floor and repeatly drop the open end of the pipe on the wood.

in fact I take mine out every year. In the event I ever want to change the type of muffler I am using I do not have to replace the entire side pipe LOL.

I'll try to remove them like that and hope I don't damage them as replacements will be hard to get fast overhere.

But if they are the glass type I would leave them as they are pretty ok, soundwise and flow.

Thanks for the info

OK, with your help and a wooden block I got the mufflers pretty easily out.

Now here is photo of the muffler, but except of "Made in Mexico" there is nothing on there....

Got word from Holley/Hooker they are the glasspacked ones....

Thanks for the help

I have the same headers/sidepipes. I was shocked at the restricting mufflers that Hooker sells. They are all very restrictive and make the car sound less than adequate. I first made my own by getting a 24" section of 3" pipe from Midas and then wrapped them with fiberglass insulation and aluminum duct tape, but that only lasted a few months due to the condensation.

I then went with Stainless Works inserts that have stainless steel wool wadding and they have been good for 10+ years. They make the car sound the way that it should.
