Default What Could I Get?

I have a 1980 that I've had for about 14 years, and I'm thinking about trading it in for a newer vette. I'm thinking an 06-08; something that will require less maintenance and provide more safety features, but considerably less expensive than a brand new car.

My car runs pretty well, and while it looks great from a distance, it's not in the best shape. The engine is not original (I had to replace it about 8 years ago); it's a Jasper 350. Outside of the main engine, a lot of the other parts under the hood are original, and in very "used but functional" shape. There are a couple minor cracks in the fiber glass in the tail end of the driver's side. The paint is faded and has some chips and "spiderwebs" on the hood. The leather is cracked on the seats, and some other interior trim is also cracked or discolored. The AC doesn't work either. Two tires are brand new, and the others are good enough to pass inspection.

The car is automatic, has the original yellow paint, and mirror T-tops. The odometer reads 69K, but it was broken for several years before I fixed it.

What could I reasonably expect to get from a dealer in trade toward a newer used vette? What could I get if I sell it myself?

$5-8K....unless you find a "live one". The Jaspar engine is a negative issue for most potential buyers...even if it works reasonably well. Getting a paint job on a Corvette is very expensive, so no one will want to do that unless they can do their own paint. Everyone else who might be interested in a C3 with condition you described is looking to get a "good deal". More than $8K for your car is not a "good deal".

Sorry. You need to "pretty it up" to get better money when you sell it.

dealer will massage numbers and make it look good but you will just pay more for the new car.

sell it out right and you will be ahead

5-8k is about right

good luck

from a dealer....probably $0 they have no incentive to take a car that old for trade....private sale is your best bet JMO

Good luck

You'd be lucky to get $2500 at the dealer.
They'll make it look like you're getting a ton for your trade on paper, but in reality, you'll be getting next to nothing for it
