tough crowd here IMO.....19,500.00 for a '69 convertible, looks to be in pretty decent shape...seems like the value is there to me. amazing how people on here are quick to pick at a 44 year old vette....keep in mind, every time that you nitpick and suggest a car is WAY over-priced, you are actually adjusting the value of your own car, regardless of it's condition! Rick
I have been saying the same thing on this forum for over 4 years now. There is just something about a number of C3 owners on this forum...they just can't seem to say enough things negative about these cars. Chrome bumper cars are all overpriced. L71s and L89s and L88s are ridiculously overpriced. Coupes are worth less than convertibles. NCRS people are idiots and a bunch of weenies. A car has little value if it is not correct. Anybody that has anything better than what they have must be a fool...because they surely paid too much for it.
However...everything changes when they want to sell their car. Then, they all of a sudden expect to get a fair price for it. Go figure. We should be building up the image of all C3s, regardless of whether or not any particular car meets our specific criteria. Keep telling the car hobby how much wiser it is to spend money on any collector car other than a C3. See where that gets you.

Nothing wrong with the cars, there are just enough issues and unknowns with this particular car that questioning the value is there compared to other cars. If it actually sells this high, good news for all. As for coupes vs convertibles, the convertibles cost more in any make or model that I have ever seen.

Oh really? Then open your eyes.
Base price '69 coupe @ $4781
Base price '69 convertible @ $4438
It cost more for GM to make the coupe, therefore they sold for more.
However, more people wanted coupes...back in the day.
The party line today is that convertibles are more valuable and that more people want convertibles...and therefore are willing to pay more money for them. I don't buy it and I won't buy one.
A (possible) NOM '69 convertible for under $20K? Seems reasonable to me. Would be fun to cruise in with that top down. Minor dress-up items under that hood (and replace bubble lights) would make it presentable.
I'm curious as to what is going on with the front suspension. Why is the driver's side wheel so far back, and the passenger wheel so far forward in the wheel well.
A POS C2...not running, no engine, rusty mess...you can't touch for $20k. Then a pretty nice '69 we're shooting holes in for $20k?
100% honest: If the ad was written with half a brain and the car wasn't QUITE so "not original", $20k may be a possibility.
If the ad was written with half a brain and this was the car you were presented with, there is still a lot there for the right price, like I said. I'll give it a ding, but it's not like it's a $9k car. It is pretty. As Mr. Alan pointed out, there's lots of little things done that would cost lots to fix.

I am quite aware that the original MSRP was higher on the coupes. That was then, this is now.
Convertibles in the collector car market or the new car market carry a premium. End of story. That isn't the "party line"--it's the market. It isn't as if people are paying more because someone said they should. They pay it because they must pay it to get one.
I called this dude last week while in Richmond on business. I told him I was looking for a 68-69, had cash, and was a very serious buyer. This was the last day of the bidding. He closed the bidding early (about 30-40 mins.) because he was pissed. He told me he had spent a couple hrs. on the phone the night before to a potential buyer and then this buyer didn't even bid. He's a yankee with an attitude!!! Just happens to live in this great state of Va.!!! Glad he is moving to Fl. I am upset with him because I tried to go see this car several times and he couldn't/wouldn't arrange it. He
was a nice guy to talk to but he acted like his vette was made outta gold. Bottom line in my opinion is he really didn't care whether he sold it or not. I'm glad I didn't buy it. I bought a 69 t-top 427/390 matching #'s, factory sidepipe with new rebuilt motor and new correct color paint, very good interior for $23,000. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!!!! To pay $25,000 for "potential" Is just proving somebody's got more money than they know what to do with!! Sorry, I'm still hot, this guy is scum.

Congratulations on the new ride. Interesting story you present. The car did not sell on ebay. The high bid was so close to asking price. I wonder why it didn't sell?

Thank you Razman. My sentiments as well. I haven't seen a corvette for sale posted in the general section where it hasn't been dragged thru the mud by our forum members. Let's just hope they never have to sell their personal rides. May as well just donate it to charity.

You would be correct most of the time but the Craigslist ad is misleading and false. Says matching numbers. Therefore this one is the exception in my opinion. Best regards.
