A little more progress on the tail light "clip"............95% of the underside gap is covered now......I'll scrub the area to remove the "wax"/bond the 5%.....then cover theentire seam with a lengthwise layer............................

I took a few local pics of the French Quarter and surrounding area while I was in town...................

Mardi Gras is "right after" Christmas this year, so most retailers (and some citizens) swapped decorations on their trees................

Near Lake Pontchartrain....................

Excuse the blurry pics as I was driving 45 mph when I snapped them.

These are a few of the "tree carvings"........when hurricanes break off the trees along the beach the city hires a wood sculptor to carve animals into the "stumps" that remain along some Gulf Coast roads........

Hey DG, good to see you back at work, those fumes will really get you blood flowing. Off topic, I've been told you installed a soft top on your '68. I am in the process of doing the same on my '72. Can you offer any tips, did you use an instructional video? Thanks, Jeff

It has become apparent to me that King Cake should be investigated as a possible treatment for PTSD.

Glad to see you back at it.

No video/should have though/I posted pics---check page 1 of this thread for the index page number ?53-57?.........all I did was remove the 12 year old cover/scrub it/spray it with satin black automotive exterior "plastic bumper/trim paint.....it will do until the car is completely finished, then I will install a new cover. It is a "medium difficulty" task/you really have to center the cover well on the folding frame before shooting the 400 staples

I also applied a coat of silicone exterior black sealer over the staples since the original staples were starting to rust.

"You know---------I think you are correct! I had better go take another "dose" before I do any more fiberglass bonding.

Gunner, you made me look into king cake, don't break a tooth when you get the piece with the trinket in it, you've had enough time off.
Good to see the pics.
Good luck

SON OF A----------------------

I completely forgot about the BABY! They put a little plastic baby that is about an inch long inside each King Cake......whoever gets the piece of King Cake with the baby in it has to buy the next King Cake.

That explains why that bite was so difficult to swallow

It's not that bad........really......nothing a quart of resin and a pound of cloth can't fix.........

I dug into it/feathered it about 1&1/2" wide so the cloth would have plenty of area to bond to.......still need to knock the wooden clamps off the underside and add another layer of cloth/then add a second layer the full length of the seam...........

hi DG,
looking good, and glad you're back at it. not to get all gushy, but you guys are my heros. my lottery number was 327 so i stayed home as they were taking up to 187 that year. no farking way i was headed to canada. my dad suggested the navy (food's better) but i thought i could do maybe regular army for a tour. but it wasn't in the cards for me.

off C3 topic a bit, i was in high school when my cousin tony perez got home after his first tour in vietnam as a chopper pilot. this was probably in 1966 or 68. all he wanted was fresh milk and real eggs. i was like ?

anyhow, he told he frequently flew into cambodia and laos to drop off a small squad of ranger types. he'd pick 'em up 10 days later and they usually had a high value prisoner with them. sneaky-pete stuff, very dangerous, huge *****.

i recollect saying "but tony, president johnson says we're not "in" those places". he replied by saying "i know where the fark i'm flying, don't listen to politicians". my first real exposure to politics, the compliant press, and front-line reality.

that aside, you are frequently in my thoughts and pls know you have much support across the ethernet, from vt to you.

It's true what he told you----everyone else was either lying or being lied-to (National Security and other Top Secret stuff)......but the pilots were not allowed to tell the crew WHERE we were going.......all they could tell us was "If we get shot down and separated-----walk toward the rising sun".

Problem is......when we fly at 200 knots for 2-3 hours to the pick-up point.......THAT would make for a LONGGGGGGGGGGGG walk through mountains and jungles to get back to the base camp.

I love my Country......................As for Politicians.......I'd rather have a rattlesnake for a companion..."but that's just me".

Annnnnnnnnnnd thanks for the thoughts for all of us!

Tony - when you say you dug into it/feathered it is that like cutting into the body in "v" type shape? An old family friend - the guy that bought most of my Dad's half-3/4 finished projects and then finished them out beautifully - and a very high quality body man that owned a '63 split window coupe from day of sale - said the way to fix the cracks in my body is to cut a "v" shape into them and then "work them out" meaning filling and sanding. IS this what I am watching you do?

What's up Andy........I was just catching up on Old Times and watching "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".

As for the seam at the tail light clip......since I have absolutely no idea about body work except for the great advice I have read on this Forum, I decided to get as much area exposed as possible by grinding a "valley" instead of a "V" where the two parts meet since the gap goes completely across the deck of the car, and to use thick woven cloth to bond the deck/quarter panels to the clip.....then I will use the Evercoat Filler to level the seam......then sand (but don't quote me LOL).

just remember, tony, glass is hard to sand. as hard as the glass the car is made of. so if you lay up glass on the whole outside of the seam, it will be very difficult to feather it flat with the rest of the body without sanding the body away as well. PM DUB on this...

Tell me about it.....I repaired a few small areas about 4 sq. in. last month for practice.....I had to use a couple 60 grit sanding discs to take down the high spots enough to slide a straightedge sideways across the repaired/surrounding area!
