sounds dirty. where you gonna touch it? I just referred the guy with the 74 to your thread. he is gonna do the rear too, and could use your expertise on where to cut the car and tail panel to fit it up. and don't give me any of that rookie crap!! you are one of the authorities on this conversion! oh, side markers. I am thinking a little red LED just below the bumper in back, and an amber in front. enough to make car visible from the side and make cops happy....
Me thinks you just explained how to do the marker lights. Ya think we oughta use markers with dual leds so they stay lit and also blink with the signal lights kidding/maybe.
I'll try and help if you correct any misinformation I spout.

Must have been sleeping when you hit the 3K club. Congrats and I'm glad things are looking or feeling better. Lord know's you deserve a break!
Now back to work. Please

Are you talking stock light housings with LED bulbs, or something custom? Something out of the ordinary, but easy to do would be cool. "Bowtie" has been done before, but still counts. Remember the arrow head from the 68 Pontiac? One of them turned sideways maybe?

Even though it is a basket case I want to keep it outwardly kinda' original with reproduction side markers or something very close in looks, but also add safety features whenever I can.
The weather has turned from freezing and rare snow to Monsoons. BUT.....that's where the new little garage comes in handy. I need to make a new template for the rear of the car below the bumper line/the passenger side is roughed-in fairly straight, but the driver's side has a bulge that needs to be leveled....
C'mon Daylight! Time to do some internet shopping for led markers

You also might have the correct holes to mount them in. 74-up rear lights are covered by the 72-earlier bumpers, so cutting and fabbing the recess for a correct light housing is a bunch more work.

The front marker "pockets" are still there but are filled in....a heat gun should solve that problem. I saved the rear pockets which were broken off of the donor tail light clip. I remembered you guys saying they are a needed safety feature so I saved the pockets.
I'm roadrunner right now to get material to make a good template for the bodywork.
Great to hear you're doing better. I know all the freezing rain and snow as of late hasn't helped either. I know just the weather can get me in a funk.

Take care doorgunner.
Thanks a heap, Randy. My first day of working on the car didn't accomplish much, but with the standing and squatting I managed to finish a new template for the body work..........
My original Cardboard template succumbed to the humidity so I made a new reversible one from extra-thick poster board..............
The good news is......the passenger side has a spot about 2" wide that needs to be built up about 1/8" thick with body filler near the curve at the quarter panel...........
The other good news is the driver's side needs to be built up about 5" wide by 1/4" deep near that curve...........................
Now.......for the sun to come out this coming week!
where did the template come from? every one of these cars is different. the corvette has been described as a kit car built in the factory. if it looks good, raising a given spot 1/8th may make it look not-so-good. and the 2 sides off 1/8th from each other is closer than most.

I filled in the passenger side first. It looked fairly straight so I cut the template based on that section of the car. I used a straightedge to trim the long lines of the template so they would blend in with the radius where the quarterpanel and lower valence meet.
Then I flipped the pattern over and held it against the driver's side to get a mirror image.
Since I'm not going to be feeling great for another month I will give the car to my body man to do the final body work/paint.
Team Evil....all this was done per advice from Dub along with other Forum members)
....page #97/post #1934 midway shows the tapered edge of the clip/I tapered the edge of the body the same way.......
Page #116/post #2315 shows how I tapered/feathered the cut along the body to match the taper on the tail light clip..........
REMEMBER......Your clip should have a STRAIGHT cut all the way across (my clip had an offset cut line at the lower quarter panels because the clip was previously damaged/broken in that area)

And keeps the drunks from T-boning you at night.
Make 'em stylish, but make 'em bright! LEDs fit the bill.
You guys talked me into it. At first I was not going to (re)install them, but I found the pockets were filled with body filler, so I will heat/dig it out and install repro marker lights.
Thanks for the "dove tail? pics.) It looks like the forward cut lines on the side of the rear clip are about the same angle as the tail panel. Yes or no? With them '74 bumper removed I'm shooting for a but weld style fit between the body and rear clip, Just trying to understand as much as possible and get things straight before I make the first cut(s.)
Thanks— TC
