Doorgunner's '68 Convertible Project
We hiked to the top of the falls that were featured in the beginning of the first Jurassic Park movie.
Standing at the extreme edge where the water cascades over the lip was breathtaking.
I asked her if she thought we should get married and she agreed it was a good idea.
It has been the greatest adventure of my life every day since.

Anyhow.......I tried to repaint the nasty controls, but the La. Humidity is about 99.9 %. The black satin paint did weird things......
Ready to be removed from the car......
N A S T Y ...........
Wire brushed to remove rust and old paint....
Fresh paint to protect the frame..good thing no one will see the flaws........
I'll wait for a sunny day to repaint the visible parts of the controls.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

This picture...
is of me and PFC William Wilburn, aka: dad, doing one of his favorite things - taking in a baseball game. A better pal a guy couldn't ask for and one certainly couldn't have had a better father. Something very special happened to Private Wilburn this week and I just had to share.
My dad served in the army (614th Armored Tank Destroyer Battalion) in Germany in 1945/46, he earned all kinds of decorations, awards & citations during his service however like lots of guys back then, he was given the ribbon to place on his uniform but never rec'd the associated medal - in some instances b/c the medals were not designed and minted until AFTER they discharged out and the DOD never bothered tracking them down & awarding them.
A few moths ago I got in touch with the Association of the United States Army and found out they have an arm that seeks out and honors our WWII veterans & awards them their missing medals. So we set it up.
On Monday Major General Steven P. Best came to my mom & dad's home; described then awarded him his (3) missing medals as well as the "World War II Veteran Honor and Remembrance Medallion" which was placed around his neck by his Air Force 1st Lieutenant grandson (my son), Conner.
The ceremony was recorded by local news (Denver's Fox 31) and tonight it aired on the 6 o'clock news. Here's the link:
WWI veteran awarded long-overdue medals
(**WARNING** - even if you're a tough guy....have Kleenex handy.)
We're down to about 250,000 WWII vets left and although it was 75 years late, as you're about to see, dad was more appreciative than words can describe.
God bless our military.
God bless our veterans.
God bless Private First Class William M. Wilburn.
Thanks for sharing.
My Dad past away two years ago.
He was also a WWII and Korean War Veteran and served in the Army Air Corps as a B17 Crew Chief.
He was buried with honors and I never had any idea of his accomplishments until they were read at his service.
He never talked about his time in WWII, and sadly enough, I never thought to ask.
We owe so much to those who serve and who served for our freedom.

When I saw how much some citizens of the U.S. despized LEOs and our Soldiers, I started speaking up about what war is really about so THOSE folks would have a clue about the Freedoms they enjoy at the expense of the POLICE, EMT, FIREFIGHTERS, ETC., And the Military....usually I am wasting my breath.
There isnt a day that goes by that Soldiers arent remembering about combat, or they may even be seeing flashbacks....
but theyve been taught that REAL MEN DONT SPEAK ABOUT WAR.
THAT is someting they live with 24/7. Some Soldiers dont experience the above, but many do.
Holidays are rough, but because of the fireworks....Veterans hear explosions and screaming children when they should be enjoying the holiday and watching their kids/grandkids yelling in the excitement of enjoying fireworks (just one example)
ENOUGH ranting fir now .

The first day in combat you are there to protect your Nation's Freedom.
The second day in combat you realize you are there to stay alive.
