I need some some. I have just purchased a 68 coupe with a 427 4 speed w air. I know this is a somewhat common question but I need some advice. The motor in question in the car is a 427, block 3863512 casting number. I was a replacement motor from gm in 1969 when the original was replaced by gm under warranty. Does this kill the value of the car. I have the gas tank sheet and it show it was a 427, 390 hp. w air, power windows, and the other options. I would like to spend the time and money restoring the car if the value will not be killed by the engine change. any advice would be helpful.

Hi bm,
A very well restored car with the engine it left St.Louis still in place will be worth more than the same car without that original engine.
BUT, there will NOT be enough difference in value to stop you from restoring your car, and more than likely, the PLEASURE you get from OWNING and DRIVING the car will be the SAME.
So GET BUSY!!!!
Regards,
Alan
