I recently picked up a 68 Coupe and the tach was not working. I found out that the cable at the dist end was not screwed in. Well, the motor was swapped in 1992 and a crate 350 was placed in there (long story). The cable is not screwed into te Dist. because the thread pattern is not the same.
I am wondering if I need to purchase a later year corvette tach cable? If I do, will it work at the tach end on the original 68 tach? OR...do I just need to find a 68 Distributor with the correct threads??
I know I am knew here, but I've done a lot of GM restorations and been around Corvettes for 30 years. I would appreciate any help you can give.
Hi 68,
Puzzle?
I thought all tach cables had the same fittings on them, 68-74, (and thus the distributors had the same tach drive); the only difference being that the 68 cable was shorter.
Do you have any idea what the distributor on your motor is?
Regards,
Alan
To my knowledge the thread pattern at the distributor were all the same. The 68's threaded onto the tach where the 69's and up were a push on end at the tach (until the HEI days).
68 tach cables were a 1 year only part because of the threaded end at the tach.
