Default tail lights

Hey guys,

I am going to have my back bumper off and thought it would be a good time to update the lights if there is a good option out there.

So if you could please give your suggestions, that would be great. If you have any images or videos please post them. And if you know where to get your suggestion, please post a link or give a name to search for.

I was thinking of going to LED or making all 4 lights usable. All options are being considered. With the exception of the 6 tail light thing.

Thanks.

PS. Does anyone make lights that look like the middle two reflectors (red ring around a white center for the back up lights)?

I STILL love this idea, and I`m planning to do it to my car.... make all 4 stop-turn-tail, and add LEDs to the license plate frame to act as back up lights. Looks GREAT if you ask me!

im not a fan of the multiple LED lights, I use a single bulb replacement type. it tends to look more like a bulb.

Now I really like the halo type above. I'd like to know where they can be found.

The halo rings will be used as the tail lights, I'm going to put a led bulb in the center for the blinker/brake light. I will remove the wire from the tail light part of the socket.

One thing you have to do before installing them is to blacken the sides of the ring to keep the light from bleeding outside the ring. I put 1/4" pen striping on the top where it hits the lens then sprayed the sided with black paint. Dilled a hole in the lens back plate to bring the halo
power leads outside. make sure you put wire grommet to keep from shorting out the wires.

Then I d

for that money, you would need 4 if you do away with the back-up lights, I think I will leave mine stock. Who cares what they look like , as long as they work, and let people behind you know you are stopping?

They come in sets of 2, so you have to order 2. You still have your backup lights as the ring fits outside of the clear lens.

Are the original inner two lights reflectors only or can a light be shown through them?

The org backup lights work as they came from factory, On the light that is normally the tail light I disconnected the wire that is for the tail light so the ring is the tail light. you still have the brake and blinker in the center. I hope that answers your question.

Bump...I was expecting to see a lot more options than this. No other creative projects or awesome straight up sets to buy out there?

I am the original creator of both the LED halo headlights and tail lights. Looks like user Tim 1973 is building a set of both.

Here is a good pic of the tail lights I built:

Here is a vid of the LED halos combined with the LED turn/stop lamps in action:

Here is my thread documenting the build process. There are general pics on page 1, and the complete DIY instructions are on page 2.

Any questions, let me know.

~Stingray: keep in mind your car does not have metal tail lights with separate lenses. Your car uses plastic light assemblies without separate lenses. You cannot install the earlier lights (68-73) in your car without doing more work than you want to do.

Thanks 7t2vette, I was not sure where I read this, It was some time ago and never saved the post. I think your post was copied to another forum. I just joined this forum a few weeks ago. I just ordered the rings as the rest is straight forward. The Headlight rings take some time to get as they are shipped from China. Took almost over a month to get.

Are you saying this ring thing won't work?

I posted the exact same DIY build thread on the 3 major Corvette forums, you probably saw it on one of them!

Your tail lights are different from the early style like mine, so the 85mm LED rings may or may not work. To find out, you will have to cut yours apart and measure. If the 85mm do not work, the LED rings come in several additional sizes.
