Sorry this story may be a little long.. but it just has to be told
My best friend in High School bought this 68 in 1974. We used to "drag main" and made several trips in her (he called her Baby). He parked her in his moms barn and last known drive was 1981. He had intentions to get her out and "fix-her-up". As with many things time passed and then unfortunately he did as well. I picked the her up in Aug of 2011.
AUG 2011
After a year of cleaning and refreshing.. she looked better, especially considering original paint. New shoes, brakes and just a lot of cleaing and scrubbing.
Then this years coming out party.. far from perfect.. but wouldn't have any other way.
Sept 14, 2013
OF course I left his Student Parking Permit on!
Then this last weekend.. just out for the drive
Will she ever be perfect... no.. but what a lot of memories. I just can't stop smiling when driving her.
Hi John,
Your car looks terrific!!!
It really is fun to remember old cars and the friends that went with them.
Those were VERY good days. If only we still didn't know what we didn't know then.... life would be a lot more simple!
Regards,
Alan
Wonderful background you have on that car. Now you have your buddy as passenger forever. Who can say so ?
Take care of the parking sticker and have good roads ahead.
First - very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. May he rest in peace.
About the car - VERY cool car and what a fantastic tribute to him and the fun you had together. Enjoy the car and as Easygear said - he's riding with you every time.
Great story,my own close friend was taken by cancer 4 years ago and left me a 69 he had since we were 18yrs old.I have spent the last three years putting it back together after a 24yr sleep.Every time I go for a drive it becomes my time machine and I'm 18 again.Best wishes and enjoy.
The first Corvette I ever rode in was EXACTLY like that, interior and outside color, and convertible. My buddy's mom drove it when were in middle school. It got sold, but his dad bought it back for him as his first car in high school. We went everywhere in that car!! Many good memories. My buddy has tried on several occasions to buy it back. At least he knows where it is (the guy he sold it to in '88 still has it). Thanks for taking me back to my younger days, and I think you're doing an awesome thing with your car! Oh, and that passenger seat view you posted was the exact view that solidified my love for Corvettes, looking over that blue dashboard over those blue fenders! I don't think words could really describe what that view means to me!
